That front end looks sketchy...I personally wouldn't ride that thing very far.

Your front suspension linkage piece looks cheap, looks like you just got a piece of 1x steel from home depot and punched a couple holes in it.

Whether the custom guys are going to laugh at you is besides the point. Cool project, budget builds are always cool. But for the love of god, please dont cobb it together or it will look like a budget build. Check out Jockey Journal for inspiration and fab tips
I dont think you read what i posted...
Frame is measured to fit everything. Radiator, fans, battery, carbs, exhaust, intake, etc, ALL THAT STILL NEEDS TO FIT INSIDE THE FRAME.

The front end isn't done either. I fabbed EVERYTHING for this. so yea, the front suspension linkage isn't done yet either. Lots of grinding, shaping, etc to do.

I think i'm going to delete this thread because none of you can read~ lmao... You look at the first post, and just reply.

I read it, comprehended it and wrote my response. I guess we'll see what the final results look like. But if it looks like poo, dont use the I built it on a budget excuse!

but i did build it on a budget guy haha.

I've spent just about $850 bucks so far including price of engine rebuild parts, gas tank donor bike purchase, and all parts and metal.

1mm over piston from Suzuki looks to be about $35, pn 12111-38a02-100 for the piston, 12140-38a20-100 for rings, 12151-24400 for a pin, 69381-2000A for a circlip.

I'd go with a pair of oversized OEM pistons and that cylinder will be find when bored.

Re: My chopper/bobber PROGRESS!!! completely HOME MADE!

I think it is pretty badass that someone is working with what he has in order to produce a unique project bike on a budget.

I also think it's somewhat fucked up that others here are putting down your efforts.

He is building a BUDGET CHOPPER with what he has. And anyone questioning his fabricating skills and ingenuity clearly never took the time to look into what else he has done...

I just don't see how anyone can criticize Kevin for what he is doing. Creative criticism/suggestions sure, but this negativity is yet another shining example of the bullshit going on here as of late.

Good luck on the build Kevin, I can't wait to see the finished product. If it is anywhere near as cool as the Bandit, I think you will have a good amount of people eating their words in no time.

I didn't know that there was more going in the frame, mabey it will look a little more "filled out" done. all that matters at the end is that you like the bike. that being said i would not expect to go up against big dollar custom builds. guys like that garner respect based on the cash they threw at the project. me, i like a bike that was built in a garage somewhere for cheap. that is what choppers used to be about. after wwII all the guys comming back were looking for a thrill so they built choppers out of what they had laying around and went blasting down the straights. personally to see a chopper that cost 50,000 is an insult to the heritage of the machine. your build exicutes the true essence of what a chopper is. so with that being said... fuck the haters and enjoy what you have crafted by hand. see how many of them have even attempted to create something like you have. rock on!

Re: My chopper/bobber PROGRESS!!! completely HOME MADE!

When you read a thread like this with out knowing the builder you automaticly assume he does not know that he is doing... I would be willing to bet most of the nay-sayers have never built a custom bike, have no idea what to plan for while building a custom frame, and have watched enough episodes of american choper to think they should give pointers to someone who appears to be the real deal.

A low post count on NESR does not indicate a lack of ability, just means he spends more time wrenching than typing.

Good luck with the build man, I hope it comes out good. If your past projects are any indication im sure it will be sick!

Very impressive! You're capturing the true spirit of the "chopper".

very old school... nice to see it in this age of people buying a bunch of expensive parts and bolting them together and then claiming that they "made" something from scratch.

Don't let the armchair experts give you a hard time.

Re: My chopper/bobber PROGRESS!!! completely HOME MADE!

cant wait til i have the time/space/budget to build my bike. its all in my head, just gotta get some $$ moving. ive figured i can get a rolling chassis together for about $2500 and add another few hundred for the motor. i really think overall i can get it done for $5k or less.
the hard part is the frame. i dont want it all stretched out. im thinking more "indian larry" type. i want something that will still handle and tear up the twisties
    i cant wait

    DOOOOOD ! ! ! 9 YEARS AND I'M BACK ! ! !

Pulled the chopper out of the back shed... from 9 years ago . . .
Googled "Home Made Chopper" and saw a pic of my own, the 28th photo result on GOOGLE ! ! ! hahahaha.
    Anyway... the project continues!

I tried filling the front brake master cylinder, and noticed it leaked terribly. $8 on amazon for a sight glass kit, it'll be sealed up.
Just gotta re-assemble the motor, wire it, and ride it now.

I can't believe this thread still lives hahaha.

Had a kid, got married, another kid on the way.
Built a few boats from the ground up...
Man, it's been a busy 9 years. haha. AND I still trust my welds from 9 years ago.
