Well, Chris and I met up to go to MM as per usual for the 9am ride. when we arrived we planned a route with Kham and Nazo and 8 of us took off about 9:30 or so. We started on 2A/119, to 110 and then 62, a route which Chris rides often. As we approached the intersection of 12 on 62, which is a stop sign, something happened and Chris had trouble with the corner. He started to lowside, but hit the curb and it turned into a highside, landing him on the median square on his shoulder. He was alert at the scene.

EMS arrived very quickley and got him over to the hospital. Turns out he broke his Humerus just below the shoulder. He was comfortable and in reasonably good spirits - he wanted me to post up a pic of the X-Ray I took, but Im using my better judgement and holding off for now. When I left the hospital his roomate had arrived and he was waiting on the ortho's consult.

Chris is a very responsible and courteous rider and I'm looking forward to him getting back on the road as soon as possible.

If anyone would like to speak with him over the next few days you can PM me for his number.

    Get well soon!!!

    Manny

EDIT: Chris went into surgery to set the break with some 'bling' hardware. Perhaps he'll come home on Monday, or possibly Tuesday.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery in a short period of time! Best of luck to him.

How do they deal with a break like that? Is his entire arm/shoulder going to be casted?

Always hate to hear it. Nothing funny about a 'humerous' break...

This is my shoulder for my 3 breaks of the humerous:

The doctor just called me and the operation went well. He's in the recovery room right, and should, well, recover.

I'll post more info when I've seen him.

So in other words Chris dumped his poor bike on the side of the road and the bike gets towed off and left in some dark corner for later, while Chris who cuased the pain and suffering to the poor unsuspecting bike gets wooshed off to a comfortable air conditioned hospital. Gets all kinds of top notch care and an imediate operation giving him a "BIONIC" arm???? Just seems a little unfair to the bike who's only guilt was by association to him.

Well Chris if that bionic arm happens to be the one you use to I suugest you use it very cautiously

    Heal up soon Chris!

In his defense, chris is an excellent rider, he is very catious when need be and has always been a pleasure to ride with. I am willing to be my life that he was riding within his limits when this happened and something just went wrong.

I'll stop by with some when youre outta the hospital.

I was just making a joke, I didn't mean to chastise Chris for his accident today, from what I hear he's a very accomplished and cautious rider. Most of us are guilty of riding over our heads from time to time and accidents happen. I'm just glad to hear he's ok and will be recovering to get back on the bike and ride another day.

With that said, I've seen very few single bike street accidents that happen at low speed. Most single bike street accidents can be traced back to one thing: overdriving your sight line. I've followed some extremely accomplished riders on the street who could play some good tricks with deep apexing and covering the brakes into the curves, but in the end it's a diminishing returns game. Seems like there's only so fast you can ride on the street with all the variables that can be waiting around every curve before surviving the next bend starts to require luck as well as skill. Take enough turns like that, especially on unknown roads, and you need a guardian angel as well as a tuned bike and a cool head.

We took a good route today, with a group of riders and bikes of varying ability, had a good time hit some nice curves and I don't believe there were any "ass-pucker" moments for anyone involved. That's my favorite kind of street ride right there and I hope we can get together and do it again, thanks Gonz and Alfred and Mazdagrl (and Stoneman for the route suggestions, next time maybe you can join up for a road or two) it was a good day
