I live on a nice road that used to have almost no traffic, now they have stared biulding condos and houses up the street and that has brought not only traffic, but people ripping down my street, I have 3 kids and a daycare next door.. You can tell the folks on here who have kids, and those who don't. You can talk about watching your kids and what not, and that if something happens it's because you didn't watch them, but the fact is, unless you plan to chain your children up in a basement, they will be outa sight once in a while, and I don't care if you are a SUPER PARENT or not, there will be a slight chance that they can wonder into danger. Those making stupid comments without any knowlege of the subject of watching thier children should keep thier pigheaded comments to themselves so not to look like a total asses.. Cheers

Ok, obviously Im not a parent (at least that I know of), and I will give you that you can't keep an eye on the kids at all times, but Im willing to bet 98% of kids that are in danger of someone speeding at a whopping 27 miles an hour down the street dont have responsible parents. Probably the type that tells kids to go play in the yard while shes on the phone or something. Theres a group of them in my neighborhood, about 4 or 5 probably 9-10 years old that are riding their bikes in the middle of the street, every damn day. Then theres the kids across the street who I dont think Ive ever seen in the street, and they're playing in the front yard all the time. Their mom isnt hovering over them, but apparently they were taught well enough to not play in the damn street.
Speaking of which, wheres junior this whole time moms out radaring civilians about speeding? Maybe she should be paying more attention where her kids at.

I was not speaking to the video, but just people speeding through tight thickly settled areas, I put more miles on then most here, and I get a chance to see more then most do. It scares me sometimes as I see how people drive and even worse, what they are doing while they drive, knowing that my kids/friends/family are out around them.. I went to Conn. recently. I didn't know that they didn't allow talking on handsets while driving til I seen the sign as I entered the state, I was so relieved to see people Driving thier cars with nothing in thier hands.. +1 to Conn..

Or we could point out the studies that in many cases using headsets are WORSE than holding the phone. The reason being the act of HOLDING the phone isnt whats distracting, the conversation is. The study showed that people were more apt to talk longer if they had a headset than if they held the phone.

Some people are just dipshits, theres nothing that can really be done about it.
And Id love to see how this lady drives around, Im willing to bet all my money she breaks the speed limit now and again, shes just upset cause its in front of her house, she probably routinely breaks the limit in front of other peoples houses.

Sure I would love to see the study.. Either way you are talking on the phone, be it a headset or hand held, when your holding a phone to your ear your mobility is restricted. I agree the biggest factor is some people are just stupid, I talk and drive sometimes, if it is warrented, I also stay in the right lane and don't go weaving down the highway...

    :offtopic:
I don't know...I think driving with one hand on the wheel while talking with the other hand is a little more distracting than carrying on a conversation.

You talk to people in your car all the time... some of us even sign along with the radio... I am a firm beleiver that headsets are better.

    Quick search:

A new Australian study has confirmed what many anecdotal reports have said for years: driving when talking on a cellphone is dangerous, even if you're using a headset. The study — the first to cross-reference actual crash data with call logs — found that "there is no safety advantage associated with switching to the types of hands-free devices that are commonly in use." The results are likely to add fuel to the ongoing debate about banning cellphone usage by drivers; "[legislators are] most convinced by the tombstone count," one expert told The New York Times." Given the number of drivers we still see using handheld phones in states where it's already illegal to do so, we somehow don't think changing the law will make much of a difference.

And let me put this out there, its not that I dont think people need to be safer in neighborhoods and that sort of thing, believe me, I do. Its just I hate all these self important people who think they're whats important. Im willing to bet money that this woman doesnt follow speed limits in every neighborhood she drives in. She probably hops in her SUV and talks on her phone and flys through other parts of town, but when someone does it near her house she has to get all up in arms.
Whats next, she'll have a decibel meter because loud exhausts could damage peoples hearing? Im willing to bet the discussion would be a lot more biased against her in that situation.

I like to think of it as self-important. Cause my town is full of people like that. I hate it.
