New way to clean your chain

Or not. found this link browsing BoRN. I never thought someone would clean a chain with the engine running and spinning the rear. Its graphic so if you're squemish, don't click.

    sounds like lesson learned.

    People actually do that?!?!

Wow, glad I never even thought of that as a remotely good idea.

The kid I sold my zx to did that... Just nipped off the tip of his index finger. I've cleaned the chain w/ the bike runing... Ya just gotta know there's a ''safe'' way and a stupid way. The ''safe'' way (and I'm using quotes cuz it's still not all that smart) doesn't involve grabbing the chain before it reaches the rear sprocket.

I am amazed everytime I hear this that people even think of it. How hard is it to actually turn a wheel with your hand?

When I crashed in April, I didn't realize I had done anything to my hand till I looked at the remains of my glove... Didn't hurt, but shock set in pretty quick. (Yeah, I'll be ok to walk back to my pit, it's just across the fence... let me just rest a second... let me just rest a couple more... you know, that ambulance ride sounds like a lovely idea, I'm just going to slowly sit down now while I wait for it.) Didn't start hurting till about 30 mins in on the way to Concord ER... Hurt like HELL then.

Fortunately I had a friend handy who distracted me with centerfolds while waiting for the meds to kick in.

A radial arm saw does a cleaner job. in my case they were able to reattach my severed digits, only shortened by the thickness of the dado blade

I never clean the chain while running, to many things "could" happen no matter how safe you think you're doing it. I do usually lube the chain while the bike is on the stand and running in 1st though to put on a nice even coating.
