My Close call Saturday

I was enjoying a great ride home from the track listening to my tunes until some asshole decides not to merge into traffic correctly...

I was only 5 minutes from my front door...

So travelling on 495 south I am in the right hand lane decreasing my speed approaching my exit ( Rt9 Framingham ) A jack-ass trying to merge onto 495 tries to merge right the fuck into me never even looking to see if anything was coming or next to him.. I locked up my front brake in order to avoid the collision, I heard the front skidding and could feel it sliding out from under me so I let off slightly. I saved the bike from going out from under me and also from hitting the car. Luckily nobody was too close behind me or I would have been hit from them. The asshole and his woman heard the skid and was looking behind them scared as all I could do was flip them off and exit to head home and regain my calm... I would have loved to have been able to throw something at the faulker....

Glad you're ok. One of our friend was not that lucky 2 weeks ago, he work a LOT and can barely ride. He decided to take his nice Ducati out for a very short ride around the house. He took a curve a little bit too fast or something and ran straight into another vehicle that was turning in his way. He broke his arm. And the bike cannot be ridden anymore. Just to say that accidents can happen very close to home....

Is that the area where 95 and 495 split after the tolls? I know coming back from Maine in my car I've almost had people "merge" into me as well.

Nowhere near there Jeff.. This is in Westboro, Mass where 495 & rt 9 cross.

Oh, I've never ridden that far south, just been to the junction of route 2 and 495. Good save though, glad you came out ok.

Glad to hear that you saved yourself; well done with the braking. I know I would have completely lost it if I locked up the front tire on the highway.

495/route 9? That's close to my neck of the woods. As a matter of fact, I have a short video of myself riding those on/off ramps over and over again.

Good save, glad you're ok. It's amazing how people don't bother to look when merging (or just changing lanes) I've had a few close calls too. People are just ignorant and don't pay attention to others on the road.

Glad you saved it... 495 is crazy!!!! Everytime I ride from Rt. 9 up to Lowell to go up to Bike night, etc.. I can go like 95-100 the whole way on the bike and there are cars passing me the whole time, cell phone glued to their ear, it is just nuts!

I don't know why the cops don't enforce on that stretch, it makes little sense, I am happy to speed a lot of the time but it is just out of control on 495 and they'd be able to make their monthly quota in an hour on the 1st of the month and then spend the rest of the month looking for real crimes.

I am not distracted one bit with music. I listen while in the car, what is the difference on the bike???? Do you listen to music in your car? If so, shut it..... Nuff said.. Same thing happened to a friend at work on 290 this past weekend, only slightly different. HE was in the middle lane with a truck directly next to him in the right lane. A car wanted to merge into traffic but did not correctly merge, the truck had to swerve into the middle lane to avoid the car and almost clipped my friend on his R6. My friend hit the brakes swerved to the left lane which was clear and avoided the collision.. It's the damn cagers on the cell phones, or reading something whether it be a news paper (like I saw this morning) a map or business material, and even woman doing make up and guys shaving??? ? Save that crap for at home or work, not while your driving..

It's the asshats in cages that need to be paying more attention. Seems to be more bad drivers out on the road every damn day. Poeple driving too slow in the passing lane and will never move over even when the right lane is completely empty.
Just this morning I was in my truck on rt 9 west I was in the right hand lane. I saw a car ahead that wanted to pull onto rt9 so I put on my directional and switch lanes so he could pull out sooner and have a clear lane. What does this asshole do? Pulls out and jumps right into the left lane in front of me. I am doing 50-55?, he is just pulling out trying to get up to speed and I almost clip him... I managed to switch lanes as I layed on my horn and High Beams.. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???

Your not helping.. It would have made me feel better... But your right throwing something is not the answer and would only do more harm to the matter... If someone was to retaliate like this then they would get in a lot more trouble than the bad driver.... I know, I know...

Who said anything about the car? Yes I listen in the car, but I don't listen all the time. High risk situation, driving through tight twisties, driving through rain/snow, driving into a city I don't know, lots of traffic, getting tired, having trouble concentrating, I will shut the radio off.

Being dehydrated saturday definitely reduced my concentration on the ride home, that would have been a factor if I was considering music while riding.

But anyway it is easier to drive a car then to ride a bike. It's awfully rare to see people riding a bike while smoking, drinking coffee, reading the paper, doing makeup, etc.. too.

Only reason I questioned you is the exact same thing happened when I was following you the other night, you misread the situation and/or decided to play chicken with the cager and then got all pissed off. You could have just let the guy in since there was no room to speed up. Drivers ALWAYS behave like this in New England, just assume they will do so, let them in if you have to and don't try to fight for lane position with them, cause they will win every time, either next time you lose it sliding, or they just bean you and/or run right over you. And probably won't stop to see if you're OK!
