No clutch lever? No shift lever? No footpeg? No problem.

    1. Pick up your bike
    2. Put it in 2nd gear by hand
    3. Get on the thing
    4. Push forward (it's not goin anywhere since the clutch is engaged)
    5. Key the starter, start running & open the throttle
    6. Ride it home (or back to the pits in my case)

Hell, if I could have done that with the bike in 4th gear, I probably woulda tried completing the race.

I finished a rain race in 3rd gear a long time back.. had a clutch but no rear set or shifter.

If it rolls and doesn't leak and there are points to be had go for it.. haha

crashed in the rain once, picked it up and finished 3rd. i had the shift lever but not the pedal. had to angle my foot on the lever to shift up and down

Luckilly I've got enough of a buffer between me & the next guy that I'm still safe in the standings. Otherwise I'd be kickin myself right now.

Anyway.. the point of this thread, as obvious as it might be to some, is that bikes are still ridable with broken clutch levers or cables and shift mechanisms. Might help keep some street rider from getting stranded some day thinkin they're dead in the water.

Good advice Pete. Most dirt bikers know all the tricks (right smutty?) when you break a clutch

wait, so let me get this straight you keep pushing the starter button so the starter is spinning as you're pushing the bike?

exactly how I was thinking it worked. never heard of doing that or thought of it. pretty neat trick. hope I don't ever have to use it.
