Yeah, if you are good with throttle control. Otherwise your bike will let you know in sometimes dramatic fashion!

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

This technique is used, primarily, in racing when micro-seconds really count. It is not neccessary for street riding, even for the most aggressive riders.
    my two cents...

Cool! I've been kinda wondering that a bit.... Did it by accident a few times... They have those shifter kits for full throttle upshifts, so, I geuss it can't be bad.

It can be smoother than using the clutch with some practice. If it feels smooth, you're probably not harming anything. If it's making klunky noises, go back to the clutch.

FWIW I make clutchless downshifts on the track as well. on a 2 stroke it's easy, on a 4 stroke it requires blipping the throttle, which is beyond me under heavy braking.

On the track, I rarely use my clutch for upshifts. On the street, I go clutchless when I'm accelerating aggressively. It's easy, smooth and quick once you get the hang of it...

Same here, always on the track and hard accelerations on the street.

Sure I do it all the time. And I never even lift my hand off the throttle to do it.

sometimes use the clutch 1st to 2nd, use it on downshifts a lot of the time. It's much smoother to me and allows me to put my $10 bill to better use but seriously, it does allow me to put my attention to other things and it fits my riding style well.

Definatly depends on what kind of riding is going on. I think the twins may be much easier to shift like this than those in-line things

I usually don't use the clutch for upshifts as well - maybe on the 1-2 shift, but that's all. I definitly use the clutch on downshifts.

Maybe on newer bikes... I wouldn't recommend it on older ones...

I don't use the clutch to upshift because it is one less thing to do. As the article says "...., you'll be amazed at the time and energy saved. (you'll probably reduce wear and tear on your clutch plates, too..... Haven't had a problem yet.

Looks like someone has been reading Kieth Code's Book!

    Ed...in-line things...THAT'S FUNNY....

Me too. Clutch here, no clutch there......You'll know when youv'e done it incorrectly. The opposite is true also...AND...you'll save a dollar or two!...

CLUTCHLESS UP SHIFTING is ok for your trany

I'll admit I had tried to do it before, but I must have been doing something wrong as the tranny wouldn't let me shift it up....I think I was worried about breaking something so I would let the RPMs drop too much..
I tried it this morning while getting on the highway and I must say - it DEFINITLEY felt/sounded a lot smoother. Probably won't use it all the time, and I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but it's always fun trying new things.
