Don’t get me wrong, you can ride a 990 on the highway just fine. Get one, you’ll probably really enjoy it.

Don't try to keep this on topic
I beat the shit out of my Multi and it loves every second of it, including easy dirty work... powerlines, light trails, etc (nothing that -requires- a true dirty bike). That's all on a set of pilot roads as well. I'm like 95% pavement with the occasional trip into the woods to find a good camping/fishing/lunch spot... so it suits my purposes really well. It has MORE than enough power to fully load up and take a 2 or 3 day trip with the lady on board.
That said, it's a damn rocket ship. I'm not sure why I still have a license. So if that's a concern of yours, it might be a bit much.
As for service intervals and maintenance... I paid Eric at Clubhouse like $800 for the 15k service. Beyond that it's been a peach. Even the minor electrical issues I've run into were rodent related, not Italian by nature.
I spent 5 minutes on craiglist looking for something that fits your needs. No luck. But have you tried getting a couple guys to lift it, yet?
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
motoarch, then Kimber had it after me, and popped the motor that was in it (good thing there was an extra, drop in mill), and painted it so it looked good with some fairings, and then its disappeared into the sunset. I'd have to assume its still circulating the ttd community somewhere.

Back on topic... if you don’t need to go on the highway, don’t want dirt capability, and don’t work too far from home: a Grom with a topcase makes a great commuter bike!
I’d consider selling mine for the right price.
Older VSTROM 1K more fun but 650's make great commuters
Can find set up for luggage many many thousands of reliable miles in Great all arounder
One Vstrom 1k did over 433,000 without engine work and was retired in place still running

Still shopping.
Test rode a tiger 800. Thats out. Too small. Not enough go.
Also rode a super tenere. So thats now on my list.
not that anyone cares, but i settled on a super tenere. i found one down in NJ for a reasonable price. 21,xxx miles, included all 3 bags, 2 liners, sw motech crash guards and tank bag, and a heavy duty bash plate. made the trip down to AC on a saturday after work in june and came back on sunday.
i love this bike. its humorous to go back and read how much i shooed off this bike in the beginning. ive put 18k miles on it so far.
ive added some Rox risers, a heated gear harness and a windshield spoiler to make it a little more comfortable and ill be looking to add some aux lighting.
