bummer he didn't really get on it...

though i guess i can't blame him. full throttle in the powerband for that thing for anything more than a second or two would be be 2+x the legal limit

well my trusty li'l SV will take a while to get to double the highway limit... certainly more than a few seconds.

and i've never gone WOT on a literbike... only did maybe 1/2 throttle on TimD.'s 954RR at like 4000rpm, lol -- talk about instant thrust.

He said he hasn't bought a duc in about 15 years but I was told that you couldn't by a Desmosedici unless you already owned a 1098? Unless I heard wrong.

When last I read about buying a Desmosedici (not that I have that kind of money) the rule was that preference would be given to people who already owned a 999R. It may be that owning a 1098R would get you the same sort of preferential allocation. I imagine that being Jay Leno gets you just about any bike you want.

Because how much money you have should matter when they were sold out before the first shipment even went out? It's not like they were getting more money for the bike because of who someone was. I am pretty sure that the rule they made about already owning a 1098 before you could buy it was more that you knew how to ride, I think I read somewhere that some type of skills test was involved too. I'll never get to ride one let alone own one so it doesn't really matter to me I just think it's BS that he got special treatment because of who he is.

Ok... so I have a 1098 and pass the skills test. Who's to say I can't resell it to Jay Leno for a 100% markup?

That's your own deal. I'm sure that the warranty isn't transferable along with the 2 years free maint. (I think?) that came with the bike. Obviously anyone who has the cash to buy one in the first place is pretty well off but he gets special treatment just because he is on TV? I bet you would be pretty pissed off if you were the person that put in your order for one and followed all of Ducati's rules but got bumped off the list just because Jay Leno thought it would be cool to have one in his garage.

Re: The coolest sounding bike I've ever heard

I have a feeling that when a collector like Leno comes to you and asks if he can buy something you generally find a way. I'm sure Ducati wasn't going to tell him no. I also have a feeling nobody lost their spot on the wait list for it. Those who can afford that bike will have one. Whether it's right now or later remains to be seen.

I'd rather have a true car/bike nut like Leno have the bike than that crazy douche Tom Cruise. He probably keeps the Desmo locked up in his Scientology compound with his wife and kid.
