But, I am a contract worker so no work = no pay. My cost per lap actually goes up if I factor in my missed work! Is that even possible??

I got into motorcycles and motorcycle racing this year as a cheaper alternative to racing cars. I still need to run numbers for '09 (first full season on the bike) but at ~$300 for a set of tires and only $240 for a weekend worth of races (two races, Friday, Sat & Sun practice) it still beats $1,250 for a set of car tires and ~$450 for two days on the track not to mention the difference in gas.
