    Angry Crashed

I was going down watertown street in newton, some 19 year old kid pulled out of a side st. Pearl st. right in front of me, i broke hard bike skidded and i went right into his truck. There was pretty much nothing I could do to avoid this cause i had cars coming towards me and couldnt use the opposite lane to go around his truck. An of duty cup was there and he is my witness to what happend.

Bike is all scratched up on the right side. Muffler is banged up, and it won't start for some reason.

I hurt my hip and banged up my knee pretty badly. Went to the emergency room and DR. said i should be fine in a few weeks.

Got a few questions for ya guys.

    1. How fast does it take for insurance to pay up on something obvious like this.

    2. Will they pay for all my messed up gear. Helm and jacket are really spensive.

Glad to hear your OK. Make sure you play tough with the insurance agent. They'll prolly try to get out paying for your gear (unless otherwise stated in your policy). Good luck and post what happens!

Glad you are OK. The damage sucks, but it can be fixed. Hope the insurance is fair to you.

If the bike is on loan and it's off to a dealership to be fixed as per the insurance regulations I seriously doubt you will be riding again till next spring.

It'd probably take them a month to get it all settled and put back together, and I bet we'll have snow on the ground by then.

Heal up quick and be careful in the city when you get back on.

If the frame is scratched or dented they will total the bike.

Good luck and glad you are ok.

Frames dent easy. My Superhawk had a dime size dent in it and they totalled it.

i work at an insurance company in Mass. I know- I suck- but anyway.
Your own collision coverage will not pay for your gear. The policy only covers the actual cash value of the vehicle.
The at-fault party's property damage coverage will cover your gear.
Every vehicle in MA has to have at least $5000 limits in property damage.
AS long as the other insurance carrier accepts 100% liability - your gear will be paid for. Just provide them with documentation for the gear

FWIW, I got reimbursed for my gear after my accident through my motorcycle policy. It took a while, and it was like pulling teeth, but it DID happen. I hadta get written statements declaring how much it would cost to replace my helmet and I hadta get written estimates for my leather (Vanson) repairs. I hadta fight - and fight hard - but I got more than I had expected for helmet replacement (over $400) and my leather repairs where paid for by my insurance company...

I called and they said that if they accept 100% liability they will pay for my gear. All i have to do is give the reciepts.

I was also told by my doctor that I might need to go to more doctors and possibly to physical therapy to work on my back. and hip. If I do, sounds like a case any lawyer would take. So I think I might make out ok, NOT like it was worth it, but might as well make some money on this fucking situation.

I looked at my bike and its not that bad. I got it started fine this morning. Only damage is to the pannels really and the muffler, basically the whole right side of the bike (not the frame) Wonder how much theyll give me. Its basically ALL the plastics including the front the tail and the lower right and upper right fairings that got damaged. Any1 have any idea ballpark how muc h that might be worth?

    Insurance collection

    Stoneman:
The ins guy is right about the other carrier picking up the gear. (beyond the bike)
It sounds like your company paid you (for your gear etc.,) and went to collect against the other guy's insurance company.

Sometimes they will do this. Its promising that they didn't leave you out in the cold.

    Checky: sign here...................

If you need physical rehab don't quickly cash a check from the other insurer until your happy with the way your body feels.

Cash and (possibly) be out in the COLD............. for future payments etc.

No company does things in Your best interest.
My Mardi Gras buddy does commercial high risk insurance coverages like oil rigs etc.

While not the exact details, this guy was seriously injured loosing a body part or limb.

They sent a limo for him to take him to the bank to cash the check and move on with his life.........................Asking someone to help him open his 40, day in and day out.
    Insurance company will screw you.

There was no 'other guy's insurance company'. I claimed it all on mine. I went into the OTHER lane, hit an oncoming car, did a flip over my bike then went ass over tea kettle into the woods along with the bike. By bike ended up wedges between two trees, and severely broken...

Boris - DO NOT wait to have yourself checked over THOROUGHLY! It took some time for me to learn that I had cracked some ribs and chipped some vertabrae and fractured my collar bone. I don't like doctors, so I don't have things looked at unless they're entirely unbearable. It took a little over a year to learn that these little lingering pains here & there were injuries sustained in my accident...

Don't settle NUTTIN' until you've been thoroughly examined...

    boris-
do get yerself fully checked out... especially if you plan to claim against the other guy's insurance.
it's taken me a year to get to a point when i'm *almost* done with insurance crap, but then again, it's taken me that long to be done with all the major medical expenses...
glad you're not feelin' too bad, but be safe & smart, dude.
