    Crashers and mileage

I am going to further hone the ideas with crashes at different experience levels.

These are street miles only not dirt or track

IF NO GET OFF'S POST SAFE MILEAGE

0 to 3000 miles ----noob probably 1st season

3000 to 6000 miles got some skills but maybe sophomoric

    6000 to 12000 miles experienced

12000 + real world skills old bold pilots

My only real down was in the noob class 0 to 3000
Since then 120,000 miles with only the occasional off pavement sortie

answer as many crashes as you have had in each category

    2005,Year 1: 0-5,000 miles-Noob, crashed twice (25 mph or less)
    2006, Year 2: 5-11,000 miles-Intermediate, crashed once (15-20 mph)
    2007, Year 3: 11-17,500 miles-Int/Experienced, crashed once (25-35 mph)
    Total: 17, 500 miles, 4 crashes...going for a clean 2008, wish me luck!

    Re: Crashers and mileage

last year, 12500 miles ..no crashes.

    year before 15000 miles...no crashes

year before 15000 miles ...1 crash

year before 14000 miles ....1 crash

and every year before that back to 98 i crashed at least once each season...and probably averaged 10000 miles...

    Re: Crashers and mileage

I've hit the pavement a few times, but never any significant damage (scratched headlamp bezel, rash on turn signal lense,) and I have always been able to ride away

ny first get off, in Roanoke, I prolly had 30,000 miles of riding under my belt, but it was my first trip in touring mode packed with a pillon's worth of gear

I would guess that I have well over 250,000 miles of seat time now

First crash, mine was an out of control throttle stuck, got to get off, accident at about I'm guessing 30,000. Nothing since, call it 20,000 trouble free.

All my tipovers were while not moving, so I've got right around 20K now with no moving crashes. Keeping my fingers crossed....

    Re: Crashers and mileage

i had 1 in the parking lot while practicing for my license, then just non-moving tip overs.

since that first one i have gone about 40k miles with 1 tipover after a 13 hour day of riding and my leg gave out when i put it down while stopped at an intersection... 2am and nobody around except my wife, and we laughed about it.

    Re: Crashers and mileage

Small lowside back in 1993 with about 15k under my belt

Nasty lowside into a gaurdrail doing about 60mph in 1997 with about 40k under my belt

Real nasty highside over the handlebars and onto the back trunk of a moving vehicle in front of me back in 2000 with about 60k-70k miles underr my belt.

Moral to the story. How many miles you have under your belt of driving doesn't mean jack shit! It may make you feel better and safer about riding and being able, instinctively, to anticipate what the other person is going to do but an accident is going to happen if it's your time to go down...you can't control the other person in the cage and you can't control a slick spot in the road etc etc..

    My opinion....

    Re: Crashers and mileage

Not counting zero mph tip-overs, my one & only street crash happened a month or so after my first track day... probably had 6000 miles under my belt, maybe a touch more.

Since then I've done probably another 20k miles & no street crashes.

    Re: Crashers and mileage

I am working on a blase theory

In cars most accidents are caused by driver inattention... anyway doesn't look like noobism is the major cause.

Our group here is a select group of sportriders under representing the dead noobs and those that never came back after a crash

About 60K miles crash free before my first get off. I'll go into this season with about 5K miles, crash free.

    Re: Crashers and mileage

My first and only crash so far happend last year with about 10 years and about 100-110K miles on the street.

I wish I could say I was on track to hit 200K by 20 years but the whole life happening thing has significantly reduced my saddle time.

    Re: Crashers and mileage

4,000 miles: 1st crash. 11pm, dark small street, about 40mph, T-BONED A 120lb BLACK LAB IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD and lowsided (front tire lost traction)

5,000 miles: 2nd crash, 25mph high side, wet road covered in leaves. Back tire skidded out sideways, caught traction, came back and over i went!

about 8,000 miles under my belt now.

    I'd say i'm a new intermediate.

    No injuries in either accident.
