    Frame polishing sucks

    I really wish the guy before me hadn't started the frame, becuase although I know how to do this shit fairly well, I really can't stand doing it.....

    Well I got the worst part out of the way and completed(the textured rear part) but I'm gonna hold off until tomorrow to finish. I'll get pics up then.

    I'm thinking about polishing the swingarm on my ride sometime this year, but I may powdercoat it instead.

    I agree that polished is a matter of opinion. Some bikes look good some don't with it.

    Yeah, that workbench is a mess. I've been in the process of finishing my garage...chaos ensues. Drives me nuts. It will get done some day.

    I do have the pix in higher-res. I will start up a new message at some point so I don't continue to hijack 02Telefonica's thread.


    02T - Good luck with the rest of the polishing...arms tired yet? I think polished aluminum looks good, but needs lots of work to keep it looking nice. I know it wasn't your choice to begin with tho.

    Frame polishing sucks

    A polished frame can look like chrome depending on the person doing it. If you sand to much off on one spot and not be consisent you are going to have major waves. IMO clear coat over the frame or ZOOP it to seal the finish.(www.zoopseal.com) I'd rather powdercoat it.

    Anyone had a swingarm powdercoated? I got a quote for about $125 from a local place, that sounds a little high (I'm supplying it stripped/sanded)... otherwise I may end up spraypainting the thing.

    That does suck man. I got a set of forks for my old 750R and started to polish them, with coaching from a buddy that knows how to do the shit. I have no freaking idea what inspired me to start that (other than they looked like shit) but what a PITA. A whole frame... to hell with that, I'd get it 'coated. Then again I really enjoyed riding the R6 that my buddy polished, so maybe I wouldn't. Tough call. At least polishing is cheap, and can be done while hanging out. Coating takes away from the play $, of which I can use all I can scrounge up in light of this new racing thing.

    go to our website (in my sig) and find next generation on the sponsors page... he'll give you an honest quote, if it's too much $, then you're too cheap haha. "sanded" wont do, they have to sand blast it... but if you give it to him without bearings and ready to blast, he'll probably do it for $100
