    Question cruisers vs. sportbikes...

Is it me or do cruisers seldomely speak to sportbike riders when passing on the street? If I am passing a fellow SB rider we always give a sign of acknowledgement, but if I see a cruiser it seems like they turn up their nose. What is up with that?

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

I have found that it is only the Harley riders that don't wave back to sportbike riders. The metric cruisers and custom riders always seem to acknowledge.

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

This has been a topic of discussion since the invention of bikes & ego...

i almost told this guy he had a nice HD untill i saw the pic of the kid pissing on the text "rice burners"

i almost said "hey dude... check it out... i'm putting GASOLINE in the gas tank... NOT FUCKING RICE, DIPSHIT"... but then i realized that my engine is 1/2 as large, puts out 2x the power and i'm 3x as fast... if i wanna be... so fuck em, if they wanna be stuck up, let em be stuck up. It's their problem not mine. I wave to everything on two wheels that's goin the other way

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

I'm Sooooooooooooooo glad you brought this up! I have recently bought a custom motorcycle and I wave to sportbike riders all the time. A LOT of them dont wave back. I have sportbike to A LOT of Harely riders dont wave back at me as well. its a Vicious cycle.

Something that does bother me about the "new generation" of sportbike riders they are so consumed with what bike is the best ie: fastest, horse power, Magazine rated numbers. That a lot of us dont even wave anymore beacuse he's got a R1 and my 1000RR is a better bike. I mean look at all the bickering at all the message boards about R1 riders, gixxer riders, Cbr riders. Give me a break 95% of the riders on these boards wouldnt even make a difference what bike they where on. The only thing thats limiting them is themselfs and not there R1 beacuse its has 4 less hp than the Kawasaki 10R.

Shit I'm not even old, 28 to be exact but riders just 6 years ago are a completely different breed then the new "generation" of sportbike riders of today.

This leads me into the direction I think I'm heading "Cruiser style"
I'm not knocking anyone one of my biggest pet peeves on the road is some fucking slow asses on a couple of harleys clogging up the road way. I'll pull to the side and let the boys go play If I'm on my cruiser, I like to play in the corners when I'm sportbike riding to!

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

I get waves back from most riders I wave to.

In my experience sport-bike riders are pretty sensitive when they don't get a wave-back from folks on cruisers and glob 'em all together; plenty of no wave-backs from sport riders too.

Musta been slow responding, I see Rev got to it before me....

    Agreed;

It ain't the bike. Never was.

... good points, Rev... i don't know what it's like to ride a cruiser & not have a SB wave to me, but i do know that i rode w/ a buddy of mine the other day (on a ninja 250) and i didn't really see him wave much to anyone... guessing it's just cuz he's a newbie & doesn't know the etiquette (sp?)... but it sure wasn't cuz he was stuck up about his bike

and yeah... you're right again about the "New Generation" of SB riders... this bike is my first to own (been riding for a little while before that)... and i'm 24yrs old... and i can say that i'm SO GLAD i don't fall into that "New Generation" style of thinking... seeing guys around my age riding a 1000rr or whatever in shorts & a t-shirt pisses me off enough... then to have them not wave back.. it's just like "c'mahn dude... get a fuckin head on your shoulders"

maybe they don't wave back cuz they don't wanna fall

I wave to the bike - if the rider waves back, so much the better.

I don't get offended or pissed off.

My dad, who rides a metric cruiser (road star silverado - it's a yammie family ) used to say the same thing we say in reverse - sport bikes wouldn't wave back, and neither would harleys a lot of the time. So he just got sick of the whole wave thing and just doesn't bother. He'll return a wave if he catches it but not initiate. The whole "not bothering" attitude could be why some don't wave

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

My only thought on cruisers lately is they are the way to go when you want to ride slow or are in the city.

All the cruisers I've tried lately are so much more relaxing to ride in the city than my bike. They will happily go slow all day long and remain smooth and don't require you to spend tons of your attention on shifting/maintaining smooth throttle. My father's cruiser isn't 2nd or 3rd gear at something like 2000rpm at 15mph and is dead smooth and easy to control. My bike at that speed is so jerky that if you sneezed you could hit your head on the windscreen as the bike lurched hard. Until I hit about 40mph it seems to demand a lot of attention to keep things under control. I've always just thought that was the way sportbikes were and it is just something you have to put up with, but it is getting pretty annoying.

Definitely don't like riding them at high speed but at slow speed I think they are having more fun than we are.

What is crazy to me is the kids who are squidding about in the city all day long. You are basically taking the kind of bike that wants to run free & hard out in the country or at the track and riding it around in the city all day, the worst possible combination.

    Ben

I wave to everyone too (when its safe at least...)

Wave early when you can, you can watch them scramble to get the wave out before you pass each other

I dont care, maybe it'll be a small ammount of guilt they feel when they dont wave back and they will wave to the next sportbike

Interesting. Well, I don't get mad at people not waving back anymore. I just don't care. I've ridden Harley's and I waved at sportbikers and didn't a return wave, so it goes in both directions.

On another note, tehre is the super-friendly waver who will wave at you from across the freeway. You're busy trying to not get killed, and this guy will wave at you from 9 lanes over. By the time you see him, you're long gone.

Hey Cam that super friendly waver was me. LOL, just joking. Good points across the line. I never looked at it from the other side, thanks for the insight. I lie your idea OG, "wave at the bike", that'll work for me.

I get waives back most of the time... maybe it's cause I have hand tooled leather saddlebags on a sportbike.

I used to wave at everyone, but now, if I'm out on a busy weekend I find that I pass so many bikes that it gets silly... especially if you're on something like Route 2.

Up here in N. Vermont most people wave. It's usually the out-o-town HD people that don't wave. VT is pretty friendly as far as Cruiser/Sport relations.

    cruisers vs. sportbikes...

Enough of the waving B.S....These are some of the same people that ifn you came across them cage to cage so to speak...would likely cut you off or race to steal a good parking spot at Xmas time..... .....

Most here are motorcycle enthusiasts, and out on the road the wave thing, enthusiast to enthusiast, rider to rider, no matter what kind of bike.I guess the wave thing...?....but... I used to hang around a pretty tough crowd(different gangs) in my Harley riding days, they are really just regular people...just don't F' with 'em...and they will at times help you out.

Up at Hampton Beach, motorcycle spots were jammed. Me and my buddy just parked at the edge the motorcycle only spots, my bike just inside, my buddies clearly out. When we came back there was a group of Hell's Angell's there. ...they picked up the bike(or dragged it) and set it an one the spots that cleared while we were away!l The cops came by and were going to have my buddies GPZ1100 towed if it was not moved right away!

This Harley thing ,sad to say ,is just a phase for yuppies, just like girls dressing like Britney Spears, or guys trying yo look like Fred Durst?...well hope I didn't piuss anyone off too much......

    And if I did..... ........
