I did that and they still found me guilty, so I had to go in for a hearing and than they dropped it and told me not to do it again.

i got pulled over a month or so ago..conversation went a little like this:

Officer- so...whats up with riding on the sidewalk?
Me- *shugs idk*

Oh man, I had to quote you because I actually did the same thing. This was maybe a month ago. There is a road that meets route 9 perpendicularly, and seeing as many people on that road are merciless dicks, I was sitting on the corner for quite a while with my boyfriend. Eventually, we go sick and tired of nobody letting us in, so we decided to back off a bit and ride down the sidewalk to the driveway [it was within 100 feet of the corner]. I didn't even notice that at the turnaround was a cop in an SUV marked vehicle. My heart dropped, but the guy either was so flabbergasted that we did this, or ignored it, because we safely got into the driveway and pulled out bikes into the garage. That was really fun and I laughed, but I damn near had a heart attack afterwards.

I've had two run-ins with the cops since I got my license. Once was when was much younger and more stupid. Got really homesick in college, was raring to get home. Was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, when eventually some car with no lights on started following me. I got really scared when the car suddenly flipped its lights on and guess who it was? There was heavy traffic, so I pulled over into the left breakdown lane. The cop just stayed behind me and wouldn't do anything. Felt like the time was ticking so slowly, meanwhile I was having a heart attack. Seeing as he wasn't getting out, I thought it was because I was in the wrong lane. No car would let me go to the right side though, it was almost on purpose. I had to take like 10 minute slowly changing each lane to get to the other side. Got a $500 ticket for speeding, weaving, wrong stopped lane, etc. I don't remember as that was 10 years ago. Went to court, fought it, got it brought down to $250. The cop who stopped me never showed up, was some woman cop with a GI Joe haircut. That made me mad, but I paid the fine and that was it.

Got stopped again a few months ago. Happening to be taking the car because I needed to pick up the boyfriend. Long story short, a cop flipped his lights on in a perpendicular street from Jamaicaway, and stopped me. There was heavy traffic, but he cited me going 51 in a 30 mile zone, which was a lie. Jamaicaway is narrow and it was past 3 pm, which meant traffic was in full stream. Mailed the ticket out, got a court date months later. Explained the situation to the magistrate lady, got off scot free with a benefit of the doubt. What I found amazing is that my speeding ticket from 10 years ago was actually on the report. I thought those things get erased over time?

Nothing ever gets erased, just like grammar school, it's on your "permanent record."

They don't count towards your insurance after a certain period of time. But I'm pretty sure they turn up as part of your record forever. Especially within the same state.

Gotcha. I thought that those things get lost in history, like 7 years after declaring a bankruptcy. Ah well, you live and you learn. I guess I'm lucky, hopefully I don't jinx myself, that I've only had two run ins with the cops.

What I don't understand is this motorcycle effect I'm noticing. Whenever I'm in a car, going 40 in a 35 zone, for example, feels like a decent speed. However, when on my bike, I'm going 55 easy. I don't get it, is it just because motorcycles are just faster? Going 40 feels so sluggish when riding. Obviously, driving and riding are two different things, but to me faster speed on a bike feels more like I'm going the "speed limit" than I do in a car. I do slow down when I notice a cop car, or a cop on the road, but generally I always ride faster. Call me a noob, but is this just because bikes are faster/more nimble?

A friend of mine was driving home when he got into a merge lane and another car was trying to bull his way into line. When my buddy wouldn't let him in, he flashed a badge and threatened to "arrest" him.

My buddy recognized it as one of the miniature badges given by the Sheriff's department for donations or favors. As he is the attorney for a police union, he didn't take particularly kindly to the guy impersonating a LEO and asked him if he would like to have a conversation with a "real" LEO, who would be very interested in seeing his badge again. The gentleman became instantly polite.....

I've been using Waze for about 2 weeks now and it is awesome. I use it daily for driving to/from work and it has been spot on for cops and hazards.
