Got my daughter a helmet today....

We went to my dealership, I got her a black HJC helmet (can't remember which model) and a pair of gloves. I don't want to do a lot of riding with her on the back, maybe just around the house...maybe to the soccer practices so she can look cool with her friends...LOL I'm really worried about taking her, I just feel it's not right? I mean, if we have an accident and something happen...I'll blame myself for the rest of my life. I don't know...I guess I did it because she asked me many times to go on a "short" ride, I just want to make her smile but I'm still not sure I'm doing the right thing.

She's 9 yrs old by the way...do you think she's too young to get on my bike? Am I being wrong?

I am confident enough....and I'm sure most of us in here would be too...but the question for me is..all the cagers....people who drive around you, they don't give a damn about motorcyclists. I always keep enough distance between the car in front of me, but you cannot control how much distance cars behind you are giving you, or if an asshole will run a red light or turn and bump into you, etc. etc..you know what I'm saying...I'm always carefull for myself, to come back home to them alive. But you never know. Anyway, it's not like I will take her on the bike on a regular basis anyway, but she still needed a helmet even for around the house.

if you are confident enough and you want to do it then go for it. you can't do anything about other people. all you could do is have enough safety equipment, be visible, and extra caution.

You can't protect her from every possible situation. She has some gear and gets to look cool with mom . Just make sure she rides well now leans with you and holds on. 9 is old enough to follow rules, Set a few riding rules and have fun

Got my daughter a helmet today....

Yeah!!!! Another girl introduced to streetbikes!!!! In a few years she can get her own bike and ride with everyone else!!!!

Until then, use your best judgement on the roads and times you take her out with you. This time of year the cagers aren't used to seeing motorcycles, so they really don't look for them. Have you thought about adding a bright colored riding jacket to her ensemble? Make sure she understands she needs to hold on tight. My nephew isn't big enough to get his arms around me, so I have him hold onto the adjusters on my jacket.

    Congratulations...

way to go to make me feel bad Beet!!! lol I would never hurt my daughter and would do some serious damage to anyone hurting her...that's why I'm questioning if I should take her on the bike...I think I'll just do the streets around my house (quiet streets) and see how's she's doing with it, then I'll know if I feel like taking her to soccer practices and such. NO long rides for her.

Short rides are good to find out if you are comfortable with a passenger, and also find out if she has the attention span to ride safely. Some kids are good, some start squirming around after a few miles. You might also want to look at going to a large parking lot after hours, and just riding around with her on the back. Good Luck...

It's been said already, but keep it safe.

How about some power-wheels? I started on one when I was 4 on a Suzuki ATV. It was fun but had trouble powering up 2nd (or "high" gear).
