Check to see if the grip is up against the bar weight. I've seen most throttle stick problems there...

    First check rice-rocket's suggestion.

Next trace the cable and make sure it isn't binding up anywhere.

If it's not that, run to the store and get a can of WD40. Unhook your cables and spray some down into them and pull the cable back and forth until it loosens up.

If that doesn't work and you have dual throttle cables, unhook one and see if it still sticks. If it does, switch to the other one.

Last but not least, see if you can find a spring at a hardware store and hook it up to your carbs or throttle bodies to supplement the factory return spring.

Mt throttle was a little sluggish when I was giving the bike a once over and prepping it a few days ago. I unscrewed the right throttle/electrical housing and sprayed some white lithium grease down into the cables. I twisted the throttle a couple times to work it down into the cable and now it snaps shut like a mouse trap

Day before track day and my throttle sticks

    FYI

I know this from industrial machinery

WD-40 dries out leaves a slight sticky fillm that eventually attracts dirt etc.

Marvel mystery oil never dries and leaves no sticky film

Also lube between bar and roller grip

Sticky throttle would improve lap times

    Possible causes of sticky throttle:

1 - Rubber grip is sticking to bar or against housing that has the starter button.

2 - Cables are dirty or sticking

3 - Cables are pinched (usually after removing tank)

One thing that NEVER causes a sticking throttle is the throttle tube sticking to the bar. DO NOT lubricate this area as it will simply attract dirt.

A plastic throttle tube will NEVER stick to a METAL bar assuming both parts are in good condition. Lubrication between these parts might temporarily mask the problem, but it will never solve the problem.
