My one big gripe about the Daytona is that I always feel like I'm sitting on top of it. Last year I shaved down the seat and put the stock cover back on. It helped but didn't solve it. Now, this is a race bike so definitely looking for utility over comfort. I started by shaving more of the stock pad down and made a proper mess of it. So, this morning I went to a local upholstery shop and after talking to the owner I picked up some Alcantara and closed cell foam. I unfortunately can't say what kind of foam it is, but it was the most firm one they had and approximately 1/2" thick. I used 3m adhesive spray and put the first layer down, cutting it to size after it set. I just used a thin knife to do that.
I added another layer to that and then eased the edges a bit with 100 grit sandpaper.
Now it was showtime. I sprayed the seat foam with the adhesive spray, layed the fabric and began fitting it.
And here is the result
This hints at the height difference from stock.
And finally on the bike. I have to say, it feels amazing and I'm pumped with how it turned out. Looking forward to testing it out next weekend at Loudon. Now I just have to figure out how to get this glue and crap off of my fingers

Got a superbike tail on my D675. Kind a of pain in the neck getting the rear seat out every time I need to charge the battery. Wish they made a seat base for the Daytona similar to the one that Jason posted on the site NEW: Armour Bodies Superbike Seat Base 2008-16 Yamaha R6
Man I need to stop buying things last minute..... with a slight buzz. I swear that's what I heardWell, next time around I may go that route but having to take the whole thing off does sound like a PITA. I hope this seat works because I hated doing it! Appreciate the schooling though boys!

Armour Bodies doesn't make a superbike tail for 1st gen Daytonas. Some other companies do. Some folks fit 2nd gen SB tails on their 1st gens with some modifications. These are the facts as I understand them.
