My 02 rex for an 07 klr650?
thoughts?

hard to work around your house and plow snow with a klr...![]()
well you wanted 4g's+ on your rex right. thats about the going rate i think on a barley used 07 klr. going to feel like your towing a boat anchor compared to the zrx. if i could afford another toy i'd go that route myself to commute on.
no doubt I'll miss the power occasionally but I scare myself on the rex now. I have a kid and a house and a real job, things I didn't have when I bought it. I get on the interstate for the commute home and get to a comfortable speed and look down and I'm going 95. I immediately backed off but the Rex doesn't want to go below 75. To keep things in perspective, I go 55 in my car on the interstate. I don't need he power or the speed anymore. Ihave no interest in going fast. I think the KLR is a safer bet for me. I need to be more responsible at this point.

A barely used 07 KLR is the same exact bike as a barely used '96 KLR. Just something to keep in mind.
There was a KLR Doc saw in Burlington VT for $1250, same color/year as mine and nicer shape.

You will have a blast on the KLR.
Bruce
you've had no bites on just outright selling your rex? if you can sell it and buy a klx cheaper (easy to do) you could pocket some coin or use is to buy a good used garden tractor to plow/work with. i just got one off egay for short money. i'm just mowing with mine.
I haven't really tried selling it outright other than posting it here. One guy got back to me and seems interested but I don't want much hassle. I don't have a lot of time these days and my schedule is screwed up. This one is also from a dealership, held over so it's brandy new. I hate buying used shit.

I'm still interested, Nikon. No hassles, just a nice old cashier's check (assuming the bike looks as good in person as it does in your photos). Say the word and I'll be trotting down to my friendly credit union!
55 on the highway - wussie!
Getting back into the game! Looking for my next bike!
Nikon; You're killing me! I've been looking for a clean Rex and finally find the perfect one for sale that has all of the same goodies that I'd install myself, only to have the owner decide that he now wants to trade it in to a dealership.
Seriously, the dealer is very unlikely to give you the $4200 you're asking for it, and even if they show you that much on the trade-in, they're still going to hit you on the price of the new bike. You'd do much better financially to sell it to me and then go into the dealership with cash.
However, I can understand the wish for a "no-hassle" deal. If you still feel that you absolutely must go the trade-in route, could you maybe tell me the name of the sales guy you're working with so that I can buy the bike from them right after you trade it?
Sheesh, I never had to work so hard to convince someone to sell me a motorcycle that was already advertised for sale!![]()
This is where I was when I opted to spring for my 08 KLR last summer.
I can have a blast ringing the piss out of the KLR without doing "arrest me" speeds. It does okay on the interstate and the 50MPG is nice for my 45 mile commute.
I live just off 112..which is a dual sport trail 8 months of the year anyway.![]()
Will, I dunno much, but I know that these are a couple of good points.
I can think of better things to spend 4200 bucks on than an '07 KLR.... like a soon-to-be leftover 2008 KLR
AMA News: 2008 Kawasaki KLR650
Take a '07 KLR650.
Now, take 150 bucks out of your bike fund.
Your goal: Add larger forks, two-piston brake calipers (front and rear), a modern instrument cluster, a better seat, a more aggressive cam, a larger luggage rack, an aluminum swingarm, a 17-amp (instead of 14.5) alternator, lighter radiators with better cooling properties, get the head ported for better low-end power, and have enough change left over to make more than 40 other updates, not to mention bringing the style of the bike into the 21st century.
Don't think you could do it? No problem. Kawasaki just has.
With only a $150 increase in the MSRP – the '08 KLR650 will set you back $5,349 – the guys in green have fixed many of the nagging problems that KLR owners have reported for years. They also addressed some aspects of the bike that were understandably showing their age after a 21-year product run.

Will-sounds like you have a very serious buyer. You axed for advice? You should be all over the cash sale! Walking around with cash in your pocket'll get you a far better deal on something 'almost' brand-new without the hassle of using a dealer...
And as you know, I go through Hooksarkana every day, twice a day. If I can be of assistance to helping the sale go down, I'll do what I can...
Bottom line - you're crazy NOT to make the deal with dhadden go down...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
You are right.
My seat now has a tear. Probably dried out from sitting in southern california sun for the first 10 years of it's life.
Really now, it's about as simple of a bike you can get. If one of the what, 3 seals? needs to get replaced, it's easy/quick/cheap.
Take the money Will, be patient and find a nice used KLR for short money. It's not a car, it's not your only means of transport and I'm betting you sure could use the $2.5k different to buy other things for the house. Buy one that someone who knows KLR's recommends (I'll go look at one with you if it's a reasonable distance) and rest easy.
Besides, a brand new one doesn't come with progressive front springs, a braided front brake line, the doo-hickey mod, the T-breather mod and the rear subframe mod. Most of which are pretty necessary.
