    Dear Mr. Gaboriault

The insurance policy listed above (blah blah blah) has been canceled as of 7/21/2005"

well... i'm glad they mailed this notice out ON THE TWENTY FUCKIN SECOND!

woulda been nice if they just said "Hey Pete... ya owe us some money"

the other thing that really bums me out is the fact that i'd love to bitch out my insurance agent for their "timely notification" but she's way too friendly to yell at.

    "Dear Mr. Gaboriault....

I just got one of those too!!!

But not really for non-payment. The stupid-ass agency I'm with totally screwed up my policy for the Ninja when I first opened it in March. The girl there was new and she told me it would be $79 for the year so I wrote a check out for $79 then and there. Then I get a letter in the mail from her the next week saying she screwed up and my policy is actually $259/year and she needs to write up a new policy. Well, apparently the other policy was never cancelled so I kept getting 2 bills and never knew which one to pay so I was paying all of them and my agent says that it will all be transferred to one policy. So, I'm pretty sure I have already pretty much paid my $259 for the year even though its only been 5 months! Well, then I get a bill saying I owe $54 after my agent said I was already all set and then I get another bill 2 days later for $37 so I called them back and explained the 2 policy thing again and she says the girl who wrote them is no longer there (big surprise) - then I come to find out that they transferred the payment (supposedly) to my TRUCK policy instead of the motorcycle and I will get a refund because that policy is already paid for this year - so I said "listen, just tell me which policy is my actual motorcycle policy" so she does, tells me to pay the last bill and I will be all set. SO WTF, I get cancellation notice yesterday for the policy that she said was the right one!!! WTF!!! I am so done with them that I'm not even going to waste my time calling again - I'm going to switch all my policies over to my husband's agent!

Not to mention I have not seen ONE credit for any of my payments, including the initial $79 or on my truck policy!!! WTF!!!

At least I have ample notice of the "cancellation" which will be 8/15 and by then ALL of my policies with them will be closed and switched over!

    "Dear Mr. Gaboriault....

Insurance cancellation letters are usually followed by a friendly letter from the registry saying your license is being suspended for non-payment of insurance premiums. They do give you 30 days notice though to straighten out everything.

    "Dear Mr. Gaboriault....

There is a new MA regulation that says if you were cancelled due to non-payment they can request the entire amount up-front!

No more credit terms for you Pete!

My Insurance agent put my policies with Dedham Mutual Insurance Company. (Dedham Mutual, of Dedham, MA - who the fuck has ever heard of these clowns anyway).

Well, apparently, they only process Fleet on-line bill payment once every two weeks, which means that it could take three weeks before your payment gets credited to your account!!

So they get my payment into my account, but it’s too late! So the fucks made me pay $ 4,000.00 in one payment for two cars and my bike! Ass stab, or what!

    Oreo,

Make sure you call your insurance agent ASAP and have it reinstated. Reinstating it usually isn't an issue as long as you don't go more than a week or two. If you do wait longer than that to reinstate it they will make you pay the full amount up front, no iffs ands or butts about it.

    Been there, done that.

Did I mention how much I DISLIKE insurance companies.

Fuckers made me pay my $120/year payment up front! Goddamn insurance companies!

That sucks though Pete, and the SAME thing happened to me this year with bill/notification going to the parent's house and me not getting it until it was too late. I was only 1 day off though. Good luck getting it all squared away!

It's something to do with the bikes man...I swear.

-1- Call agent in the AM (3am if you have their home # ) and tell them you're reinstating.
-2- stop at ATM and get full year of payments out of checking acct.
-3- go pay the agent your year of payments
-4- Make sure your agent or whomever is online with RMV and policy underwriter to notify them of such changes and gives you receipts for everything.
-5- while there, ask them for 2353523 quotes on anything you might have been thinking about getting, they seem to like this - specially vehicles that don't have a symbol, like you're rare XFrlTZ436

    Not in MA they aren't.

In MA they don't suspend your license for non payment of insurance. If you get caught driving with no insurance, thats another story. They WILL however send you a nice letter telling you to send your plates back.

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

If you are ever in that situation again, talk to A Affordable insurance, ghetto as hell, but they will work a deal to finance you even after cancellation. You'll pay a bit more for the financing (they use a third party financing co to get around the regulation, third party co pays the full amount upfront, you pay third party finance co)

Oops, I mis-typed. I meant to say they will cancel your registration. They still give you 21 to 30 days (I forget which) to fix it before the cancellation goes through.

If you are riding around with plates but no insurance and you get caught, they can and will impound your vehicle and odds are you will then be facing a suspended license!

And be ready just in case the you are required to pay the premium in full!

Do auto-bill-pay or pay up front in the future once you get this worked out.

I got a warning letter once years ago but I got the notice so it got resolved long before they cancelled me. Now I let them do an automatic withdrawl once a month.

    werd, that's the plan.

FYI, if you get a cancelation letter in Massachusetts you have FIVE DAYS.... (NOT 5 business days, FIVE DAYS) to pay what you owe and get it reinstated w/o going through the whole "start over from scratch" crap.

I got lucky & was able to do that today. I went in, signed a thing saying nothing happened between my last payment and now, paid what i owed & now I'm all set. I also changed my mailing address to my appartment isntead of my parent's house "where the bike is" (shhhhhh) so next bill i receive will come to me instead of the 'rents. At which point i'll be signing up for automatic monthly withdrawl from my checking

    "Dear Mr. Gaboriault....

This year I transferred my home insurance to a new company and did not let the old company know anything about, so when the cancellation notice came in I just ignored it. Then a few days after that they sent another letter saying they would not inusre another property for me. I thought about calling them and giving them a piece of my mind then inform them that I found a better policy and saved money. I took the high road and just did not respond to their threat.

Insurance companies suck! It is legalized extortion!
