Actually, after riding with Steve on Saturday, I noticed that the angle is close to what it would be if it were a standard system, so why waste money on that when I have so much more to buy for it.

I contacted Robbie and yesterday morning. Does he check his email regularly? I'd really like to get the plastic out to him ASAP.

Or, is the best way to contact him via the phone number on the peachpit site?

Glad you're okay. Sure could have been a lot worse, no doubt.

With the hole behind a sticker, the hardest part might be the crack along the side.

Hope you can get it fixed.
~$250 then paint etc.... isn't cheap.

+1. I think Vortex decals come standard in that size too!

my friend hit a big cat with his 97 blade and the crack looked very similar. except he had chunks of feline still in his fairing.

Sorry about the damage to your bike...more importantly, YOU werent damaged! It points out that debris can be kicked up by a cage or truck ahead of you, and next thing you know, theres a 2x4 or piece of metal, etc...flying straight at your head! My practice is to avoid staying behind ANY vehicle that blocks my view, like vans, SUV's, 18 wheelers, especially on highways with the speeds involved. When behind cars, I scan up the road ahead as much as is viewable, just to make sure there are no surprises waiting for me. Youre lucky that piece of wood didnt find its way into your wheel, locking it up and sending you God-knows-where! Last weekend, I was on my ZX9 riding around town...and came upon a pair of HEDGE CLIPPERS laying right in the middle of my lane!! Probably fell off a landscapers truck or whatever. I managed to go around them, and as I did, I looked down at them and thanked my lucky stars that I was paying attention. Its amazing how fast things come at you...even if youre only doing 35mph. Sooo...I pulled over, walked back up to them, and placed them on the edge of a houses lawn. They were a bad accident just waiting to happen to a fellow rider. Anyway, watch out for shit that cagers would just as soon drive over...

If it turns out that he'd be over $250, I'll just get a new lower. I'm really hoping that it'd be more like $150.

    We'll see, I guess.
Plan on it...he's VERY expensive. Buy the panel.

Well, as luck would have it, I found the lower from a '98 CBR900RR on eBay. The place that was selling it was in Stafford Springs, CT, so I was able to pick it up on Wednesday.

As it turns out, the one I found is exactly the same part number as the one that got damaged, so it's still original.

Here's the new one, waiting for the "HONDA" decal I ordered to come in, and the old one side by side:

For a closer comparison, here's the damaged lower:

    And the "new" one:

Oops. Maybe I got a not so hot one?

    Wishful thinking?

I'd hate to think that someone else is lacking a lower because the one I now have is his.

I feel your pain, my busa was pristine till I got a 2x4 whirly birded at me two summers ago, nice crack in the side of it. I like you, did not see the damages right away. I would hit up Santa for a donation.....

Well, I thought I didn't get any damage

Well, currently, the bike is in a few pieces. I have both lowers off in order to size up doing the frame sliders I bought.

I had to remove both "CBR" decals from the mid plastic, because the hole I have to cut in them would cut right into the decals.

Since I had to order a new "HONDA" decal for the lower I got from (hot) Shark Cycle, I decided to order new "CBR" decals as well and will figure out how to apply them after the frame slider installation.

I'm also in the process of replacing all the stock directionals with short stalks. I already did the fronts and they look MUCH better than the huge stock ones.

As for the tail, since anything I buy requires me to cut that air brake of a rear fender, (undertails can only be found overseas for the 96-97, and Comp Werks fender eliminator requires it as well) I decided that I would just mod the rear fender by cutting it and remounting the lighting (directionals, plate light) to the clipped version.

I'll let you know how it goes. Here's how it looks now:

And here's what I'm hoping to accomplish(note that the angled area in this photo is where I'm planning on mounting my short stalks, so it won't look so open and weird):

My brother's f4i came the same way as in the 2nd pic. The previous owner just cut the mudflap and put the short stalks where you said.

I think the pain in the ass isn't going to be the cutting, I can do that easily enough with a dremel and a cutting wheel. It's going to be repositioning the plate light.

Well, I thought I didn't get any damage

My brother had to get some of those bolts that have lights built in to them in order to pass inspection since the previous owner just didn't use a plate light.
