Young people in our communities start biking around the age of four and become part of the culture as they grow up. This culture is not only part of our communities here in Rhode Island but for some us, the countries that we come from.
This is a key point. Since the drug war has been disproportionately waged in poor communities of color (even though suburban white kids are actually more likely to sell drugs), a very high ratio of young men of color have criminal records. Usually these are plead minor drug possession charges that result in no/limited jail time, but a criminal record for life that prevents these people from obtaining employment, education, and housing. This perpetuates a system where a culture of criminality exists, because they have no choice. They can't work an honest job because nobody will hire them because of their criminal records, which are usually tacked on at a young age.

Regarding the stealing dirt bikes issue, how many of you have purchased a dirt bike with only a bill of sale, based only on trust of the seller? In these communities, who's to say that isn't the main way these bikes are obtained, even if they were stolen at one point? There's also no point in buying a dirt bike legally, because it will be impounded with the rest of the 'stolen' ones when the police raid wherever they're being kept. Since many POC who already have records have had bad experiences with the courts or are on parole etc, many are afraid to have anything to do with the system, even if it is to try to get back something that is rightfully theirs. If law enforcement and the general public assume criminality of a certain group, there is no incentive for that group to obey the law. They're going to be treated as if they're breaking the law no matter what they do.

While I agree with some of your post, I think you're painting it like black kids get drug charges routinely when they are innocent. I doubt thats the case. Also, I'm petty sure your white kids more likely to sell drugs comment is anecdotal and I doubt it's true.

Most people would agree with you and doubt its truthfulness, as that's the assumption, but it is in fact false and has been for a long time. What makes you think that white kids are not more likely to sell drugs?

I would also bet you money these white kids who are abusing drugs at a higher rate than blacks are not going to the ghetto to get them. I'm not saying poor POC who are charged with drug crimes are innocent. The assumption of criminality and disproportionate enforcement makes them more likely to be caught, which seems pretty unfair to me. The problem is not stealing dirt bikes and hooligan street riding, it's an unfair criminal justice system that forces criminals, the vast majority of which are young, male POC into a permanent, self perpetuating socio-economic underclass.

Before the civil rights movement, Jim Crow laws were used to keep black people out of the social, economic, and political mainstream. Now it's unfair enforcement of drug laws that perpetuates essentially the same system.

Totally agree. I was not aware of the stats in the links you provided. I'll check them out.

Moral of this story is motorcycle riders are a menace to society. Nothing is scarier than a herd of Harley Davidsons galloping down the road. We need to be stopped.

Don't touch the front brake or you'll go right over the bars.

Galloping? Based on their current demographic, and my observational data, galloping is a stretch.

A horse can gallop at like 40 mph (around the same speed as a herd of harleys taking over your local scenic road) so I stand by my terminology.

You're 100% right! I was hearing it metaphorically.

I’m convinced BPD ignores this because they know that the DA will not prosecute and all that can cone to the cops is aggravation if they try to deal with it.

i have seen a zoomed in video and it looks like the kid hit the wall then the ground and the cruiser mowed down the stop sign and stopped on the sidewalk...but from the angle its still really tough to see what exactly happens to the moped

Ive spoken to several BPD Command Staffers several times about the problem.

They respond to citizen complaints and these guys generate a lot. They don’t pursue. They try to find out where the bikes are stored, and confiscate them. Rollins hasn’t really impacted the problem either way.

We’ve only seen small groups: 2-4 riders. Whether that’s a Covid response who knows.

Think of the dash cam entertainment we could all have if the police were equipped with net guns!

They turned off Beacon and ripped over the Mass Ave bridge into Cambridge.
