Part of me is a little jealous when these dudes roll by, but the majority is pissed - primarily because they don't block at stop lights. I.E. many of us have done dumb shit in our youth...and while I haven't done as dumb as some of you I've still been a party to it. But, we always blocked intersections. Which itself is still "wrong" but at least it's safe and less douchebaggy than just assuming that someone isn't going to plow through you on their green light.

Largely because at my intersection in "quaint" Back Bay, at least 2x/year there have been severe red light T-bones where one of these dudes would just be dead.

Beacon and E Berkeley come to mind. I've seen a few good ones there when people try to run the light to get on Storrow.

    It's not an isolated problem.

It's been a problem in Albany/Schenectady for years. Just the bigger the city the bigger the scale.

Not uncommon to see a tool or two with no headlights or tail lights going around on streets at night

Ah, my home town of ROC. Sad and unsurprising. Kids badly hurting themselves on illegal dirtbikes is neither a) among their most pressing problems, or b) a problem that anyone should remotely consider addressing via Moar Police Chases.

Saw a nice CRF450R on the streets of Newport. First thought - what a waste of a good bike.

    From the Worcester Telegram
Garrity said the man with whom Guzman-Rivera had been arguing — and who was shot — is twice Guzman-Rivera’s weight. He said he does not believe Guzman-Rivera meant to shoot the victim’s girlfriend, speculating that the bullet may have passed through the man into the girlfriend.

The male victim, Westerman said, “narrowly escaped death.” His girlfriend was less gravely injured, authorities have said.

Westerman, in seeking Guzman-Rivera be held without bail for up to 120 days as a dangerous person, argued he has a history of violence dating to a “very young” age in which he was involved in an assault and threatened to bring a knife to school.

He was a suspect in a city shooting in 2014, Westerman said, has been found driving stolen dirt bikes twice and appears to have been involved in a “substantial commercial theft” of motorcycles.

Westerman also alleged that police not long before the shooting had observed Guzman-Rivera in a T-shirt that suggested he may have a gang affiliation.

Garrity denied that his client had any gang affiliation, adding that the shirt was in memory of someone from his neighborhood that died.

Re: Dirt Bikes Seized by Boston Police

My 13 year old nephew convinced my brother to bring him into Boston for the "BPD approved" BIKELIFE BOSTON RIDEOUT event over the weekend... It was mostly just tons of kids on bicycles, but he posted videos on Instagram showing that a bunch of dirt bikes and 4 wheelers joined in on the fun, ripping wheelies all over the city.

I called him up & gave him the "Imma cool Uncle so I won't rat you out, buuuuuuut... here's the dark side of these events" speech.

I explained that, although it's highly unlikely, there's nothing stopping the cops from finding his videos and knocking on his door to ask him if he knew who they were... he deleted the videos before we even got off the phone.

We talked about it for a bit longer & I filled him in on some of the growing problems w/ events like these. I think he got the message. He seems to be turnin into a really fuckin good kid.

    summer nationals ~2009(?)

an NESR member and I took an RM125 and XR200...& ripped around the downtown streets of WOOSTA

wheelies in the rotary under the bridge...and lane splitting down shrewsbury street and ripping up the hills between houses

bikelife/group takeover/adrenaline is kind of exciting I guess, but the older I get the less reward do I see for the risk.

Dual sport is more fun and I do plenty of wheelies on dirt.

Fuck that guy with a splintered 4x4. All his videos are of his kid doing wheelies on public roads.
Not only is he encouraging his kid to do illegal shit but he's filming it for profit. Child exploitation IMO.

According to Boston LEO I’ve talked to, as they can’t chase them most of their effort is finding where groups of bikes are stored, confiscating them and writing up property owners for illegal storage. Most of that info comes from tips.

Obviously, it’s not working. Add to that I see scooter riders without helmets or eye protection regularly.

Illegal storage? how does that work?
In my little suburb, they still very much chase you. the only time we're on the road is getting from trail to trail, but slow and heavy as they are, dualsports have been a game changer.

Saw a woman the other day bobbling on her cute, safe scooter. No helmet. Her choice, but I don't think the curbing or pavement care if you fall from a scooter or a Busa.

Re: Dirt Bikes Seized by Boston Police

Back in 1983 on my saved up for CR125 I was pushing my bike down the street to a local track we had made. Full disclosure it was running and in gear as I walked along it. Cop said I know you've been riding on the street now turn off the key and give it to me. I told him no way I was riding on the street, look at my tires. He probably wouldn't be able to tell anyhow. Told him there is no key on this bike. As a mouthy 19 year old my final answer was if I was riding I could have taken off into the woods, but here I am talking to you. I think he got aggravated with me and decided it wasn't worth it. That is not to say I never rode down a street from trail to trail but since I rode that track almost daily I didn't want to upset the people who lived between my house and it, and a 1/4 mile was not a long walk.

Re: Dirt Bikes Seized by Boston Police

I should have just made one longer post. I sometimes get aggravated in this situation. Spending time walking through a Christmas tree farm in nearby Connecticut. Hear dirt bikes in the distance. Then see a couple KTM's with their riders all geared up, crossing the road from one set of woods to another, then disappearing into the distance as the sound of braaap fades. Man that is annoying - stuck trying to find the perfect tree while others are dodging trees and rocks!!!

They’ve pulled groups of bikes from storage units, garages, back yards and busted one group who drove into Boston from the ‘burbs in a UHaul box truck.

Usually the neighbors get fed up and drop a dime, according to sources. In other cities they infiltrate the groups: no one has told me that is the case in Boston. BPD does try to monitor social media groups.
