    DL650's lament

    *sigh*

    I think I'm about to buy a low-mileage pre-2012 DL650 with ABS and bags.
The mom jeans of motorcycles, if mom jeans were cargo pants.
Because style means nothing. Because good enough is good enough.
Fuck you, DL650, for being so eminently reasonable.
Let's grow old and dead inside together.

    Re: DL650's lament

Well, look on the bright side. If a DL650 is slow and boring, then virtually every single car you see is even slower and "boringer."

I sold my DL650A with Jesses to a guy in NJ with 20,000 miles on it. Never been back to a dealer. He put 5,000 miles on it and sold it to a German couple last May, who took a cab from the airport, got on, and took off for a ride around 'murica. Spec sheet racing is for the birds.

I see you live in Somerville.
    • You can sit on a DL in 95 degree weather and the fan will come on every once in a while. You'll never feel any heat from the engine.
    • The clutch is so light it's not big deal to ride miles in traffic.
    • The headlights are spectacular.
    • You can go at least 230 miles on a tank.
    • No one ever steals them, in part because they are too tall to fit in a standard cargo van with the windshield on.
    • They take the same size tires as the earlier BMW GS's so you can choose from every kind of tire known to man.
    • Girls like the passenger space.
    • After a nuclear blast, all that will still be moving are cockroaches and V-Stroms.

I'm actually really looking forward to riding one again. They're great bikes that are easy to handle, good power, comfy, cheap to maintain, etc, etc. And I've never had one with bags or ABS, so hey, moving up in the world!

In the city the Tiger is a lot warmer, the clutch is heavier, and the stock headlights are mediocre.

Once out of the city, you have a better suspension and 50 more hp! But for city commuters the DL650A is really tough to beat.

All you need is a perm and some oversized coke bottle glasses. The latter of which is back in style again, so you've got that going for you.

I like to think of it as more of a grandpa bike than mom jeans. Maybe I'm off base.

3-ish years now trying to find a "better" bike. Keep coming back to the 'strom. Does it all. Is paid for. Ain't broke.

It is crazy that the "mom jeans" of motorcycles will do 60 in under 4 seconds.

I'll give you the headlights, but I've never once even thought about the clutch or warmth. And I used to do a lot of city riding.

    Re: DL650's lament

I've been considering swapping my FZ6 for a DL650 for about a year now, for more comfort and a little easier ride, but I've got my FZ6 really well set up now and with my new seat/bar combo, it's pretty much all day comfy for me.

That said, I'm hoping to squeeze in a demo ride on a new DL650 and/or DL1k tomorrow...

    You sound like my wife.
    I've had an old dualsport.
My next bike will be an orange 350.
Still, I might need a scooter too. Although, I might ride mamas more before I make an investment in my funny bone.
