I promise everyone here has taken a corner faster than they probably should have on the street. And using proper body position makes that kind of situation more safe, not less. Maybe that means knee down for your machine and your situation. Maybe it means leaving your ass planted and just shifting the shoulders in a little. I've watched a guy with his knee planted on a 900lbs gold wing cutting rock solid 20' circles over and over again at less than 30 MPH in a parking lot. Shocking what some solid body position can do.

There seems to be this perception that only racers benefit from some of these techniques. And I disagree with that.

Body position is a game changer for the street.
I don't know how to make it any more clear to you that my original argument was not at all about body position, it was suggesting that, in general, the type of people that read this type of article to learn something aren't the types that push their bikes to 10/10 on the street, to the point where downshifting after a false neutral will cause a violent high side.

If you are pushing that hard on the street...well, you're nuts if you trust the road surface that much.

..I just think you're wrong is all. As I said, I nearly did this to myself once upon a time on my Bandit on a highway off ramp. At the time I didn't have the skill (or the balls) to push to 8/10ths, nevermind 10/10ths.

All of these skills apply. All of them. All the time.

...but you didn't. You saved it because you weren't leaned over as far as you would have been on the track. Had you been on the track, you actually would have high sided.

    ^ 100% speculation.

most of the people on the street just dump the bike to avoid a situation. they obviously know that a sliding bike and body has more traction than tires on the pavement.

Back to missed down shifts. screw all of this. I'm going to automatic! Honda's DCT Automatic Transmission.

That is still a clash box, which means it can miss a shift too. Bring back the original Hondamatics!
