Once I muted the (horrible) soundtrack, this is pretty much the most badass video I've seen in quite a long time...

My wife told me this story a long time ago...One time here in Southwick, i think it was around 1995, my wife ran out of gas in our station wagon that had an NESC (the motocross organization where Doug Henry and John Dowd used to race every weekend before becoming factory national riders) sticker on the back of it, cuz I was racing mx at the time...she had just started walking down the road towards the gas station, with our 3 year old son, when a nice new pickup truck with a guy driving and a girl in the passenger seat pulled over and offered her help. She accepted, hopped in the truck , and on the way to the gas station the driver said, "hey, I noticed that NESC sticker; does someone in your family race motocross?"...she told him that yeah, her husband did, and asked if he did too...he just said yes, and they started talking about something else...at the gas station, the driver had an empty gas can already in the back of the truck, so he filled it while the two women were in the truck...it wasn't till my wife inquired more with the girl that she found out that the driver was in fact Doug Henry (already a factory Honda rider with a national 125 championship under his belt, I believe), and the woman was Doug's wife. My wife laughs today when she tells it, because at the time she knew who John Dowd was, but had never heard of Doug. Anyway, they brought my wife back, he put gas in the car and made sure it would start, and was on his way without accepting more than thanks from my wife. I was surprised to hear the story that night because Doug didn't live in Southwick. he lived about an hour away in CT. Anyway, years later, after the Southwick national, I went up to Doug and told him that was my wife he had helped, and thanked him for it. He laughed and called over to his wife and said "hey, remember that girl we helped get gas, this is her husband!"

Been a huge fan since before the gas incident, and Doug Henry just continues to impress no matter what. I also heard he has done hot laps around Loudon with Eric wood, on a similarly equipped bike to the one in the video?

Had the honor of riding with him at a private track day maybe a year prior to that 2006 video. R6 vs. dirt bike ... I couldn't f'ing shake him. F'ing dude kicked ass ... and still does! I've got nothing but love for him.

Paul, tell us the story when Doug entered his Motard at Loudon in your race.

Before the motard class existed, these guys ran in GP125. I raced against Doug 2 years in a row. The first year I wasn't fast enough to hang, but the second year I was. That race goes down as one of the most memorable in my career. I slotted in behind Doug and could not get by for about 5 laps. He was riding foot out style even in the fastest corners. As a result, his lean angle was mind boggling. I was getting showered with molten aluminum and titanium as he dragged hard parts in every turn. He was sideways everywhere, including T8, which blew many brain cells in my head.

At one point, the metal bits where going down the neck in my leathers and burning my chest! I was thinking I HAVE to get past this guy. I lined up tight on the inside of T3 and as he broadsided the bike I was able to put my bike in front of his, closing his line like a barn door. I made the pass stick and held him off to the checkers. Jeff wood won that race, and congratulated me for holding Doug off. I met him afterwards and we chatted about the race. Humble guy. Amazing experience.
