Skydiver Mike? He was part of our pit of misfit bikes last year at Tony's, that were a Harley, a 'Strom, and a 'Wing.

Wait, that was the same guy? Yeah, Skydiver Mike was my ARC instructor. Him and John (with the GL1800). I remember the guy last year had the same bike, but I thought it was a different guy.

His exhaust sounds way cooler this year.

Mike sprinkled a ton of compliments my way Monday and Tuesday. He was one of my ego's best friends. I have some great contour video of him "doing the V" into T3.

i got to ride one of these a couple years ago. it wasnt an X though and it was raing so ididnt get to really "ride" it but it felt like a big dirt bike. it would def be a fun bike to own especially if you could score the vance and hines AMA kit.

    Re: Dream list...

Mike did the demo for the throttle control/braking exercise. He was supposed to demo mashing the brakes and/or chopping the throttle and we were supposed to see the forks diving.. I had a helluva time telling the difference between 'right' and 'wrong'. I am guessing the forks on it don't suck.

Right now I think the Sportster is probably the most authentic HD in my skewed little view of the world.

    Re: Dream list...

Yep. Same guy. Last year John and Kerry were my "official" ARC instructors, and Mike was learning to be an ARC instructor, so we effectively had 3 instructors.

Everything sounds great compared to my sewing machine, so I'm not a good reference .

If I'm getting a Harley, that's the one.

It is a TRIP watching John ride around in a circle with his knee on the ground off of that 'wing. That 6 is just so smooth. And it sounds like something out of the Jetsons. ... Then Mike would fire up for his demo. Opposite worlds.

Mike did a really good job presenting material in the ARC.

Yea, I've seen John do that and i still can't figure out how. I can't get anywhere near the ground and still reach my offside handlebar. Completely clueless on this. I know I'm too fat, but I think I might be too short as well.

    Re: Dream list...

Definitely too short. I can relate. Oh, and then John climbed aboard a students' Kawasaki Ninja 250 to demonstrate something about body position. The guy is like 6'5".. I found it hilarious. There was basically no way for him to get his knee braced against the tank. It was like one of those Chinese pit-bikes.
The woman who owned the 250 was maybe 110 lbs soaking wet. The bike fit her perfectly.

I might have seen a pic of Rada sitting on Jake's bike during last weekends races. I really wanted to caption it with a "uhhh... does this come in a large by chance?" I can imagine John on a EX250 looking very similar .

    1. Commuting & long distances: VFR800, either type.

    3. Twisties: Ducati SF 848
    4. General riding: z1000
    5. Panty dropping: This if i can choose a concept: http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bike...ty/#more-43127 if not than the Ducati D16

    3. Twisties -- Ducati 998
    4. General riding -- see #1.
    5. Panty dropping -- I think y'all missed the boat on this one; what good is a "panty-dropping" bike if you can't take her home on it? Plus, you're mostly listing bikes *you* lust after, not bikes that girls will. If all the panties you drop are from the guys at bike night, you may have aimed wrong. For this, I'd take a really nicely customized Harley Road King.

And, since I only used 3 bikes above, I'll make the other two:
    6. Vintage -- a nicely set up Norton Commando 750
    7. Just because -- Bimota Tesi 3D

    PhilB
I had made this reply based on realistic money; things I would buy with my own money if I decided to.

To update more in the spirit of the original question of money being no object (e.g. Bill Gates gives unlimited budget for a birthday present):

    1. Long distances and two-up -- MOTUS MST-R
    2. Track day -- Ducati SuperMono, lots of riding instruction, trade up to a Britten V1000
    3. Twisties -- Ducati DesmoSedici D16RR and either VOR Supermotard, or one based on a Honda CR500 2-stroke
    4. Commuting & General riding -- Ducati HyperMotard 1100S (with CA Cycleworks 6-gallon tank)
    5. Panty dropping -- Bimota Tesi 3D and H-D Road King

Plus the Norton Commando, Ducati 998, and keeping my trusty M900 Monster.
