    drill my windscreen

I would put something (wood ) on both sides of the screen and clamp them in place tight. If you don't the drill WILL grab the screen and crack it when it goes through, unless you get real lucky. I have had to drill lexan (wind screen material) many times and that is the best way I have found to do it. Oh and don't rush the drill through, let it cut its way through.

    drill my windscreen

it would be behind the windscreen and not expose to element while moving. i think. it wouldn't be any worse than on gas tank. i was little bit worry about the vibration and screwing up but the stock windscreen is cheap anyway?

It's not the vibration of the drill that does the damage. When the tip of the drill goes through, it will grab into the material harder and rip it through. If you use the clamped wooden blocks it will greatly reduce this from happening. And why take the chance in having to by a new wind screen when you don't have to. Can use that money for some other bling stuff........

    drill my windscreen

Kham let me know how it works out.

I would definitely think about doing this with my V1.

The VFR screen is high enough that the thing would stay bone dry in anything but the worst weather. And it would be the one mounting method which would not obscure the instruments.

The V1 has a clip on attachment that I may be able to use anyway though.

The biggest thing that has kept me without a radar detector is being too lazy to look up how to wire it up correctly.

Use the clip, but drill a hole in it and the screen. Then use a hoodpin (or wingnut, or anything) to secure It would be easily removable too.

I'd also use some kind of rubber to isolate it from vibration. Ice and water shield for home would work great. Cheap at HD too The color wont bleed either.

damn! my last post didn't go throu.

that is the best spot i can find without obscuring anything. im using my escort 8500.

to clarify, the vibration im worry about is after the mounting and when the bike is moving, not damaging by drilling. later on when im not using the radar anymore, which probly mean i won't have the bike, then i could block off the hole or get a new after market windscreen.
