    DROPPED MY HELMET!

well like a dumbass it funally happened. i had my helmet on my seat, turned my head to zipper my jacket and CRACK! landed on the ground between my legs. the outside damage is surprisingly almost non existant. unless i pointed it out you would never notice. but when i got home i removed the liner and found that the inner foam was cracked (maybe less than 1/2 and inch) and slightly raised where the impact was.

it is an icon domain decay. is there any way to test if this is still ok? should i not be worried or am out a $400 helmet

depending on how bad the damage is on the inside (obviously we can't see/tell) you should be alright, if its just a hairline crack in the black part of the foam i think it'll be alright. if its like a half inch long and deep, that probably isn't good.

For street use you should be alright though, but its your head....your judgment. I've got a friend thats got a crappy K1R helmet that he throws around like a football, its got little white hairlines all around the inside but he feels safe riding with it I guess..

i say if the inside has a crack ... the helmet is done

there is now a weak point in the actual part of the helmet that dissipates the energy, and now that energy should you hit your head could be passed onto your skull instead

i am extra cautious when it comes to helmets ...

yea, it is better to be safe than sorry...

buying a new helmet does suck though, i just had to replace mine. esp when you aren't anticipating the cost.

    DROPPED MY HELMET!

...yeah..i wouldn't trust my head in the helmet if it did that...When I wrecked I was wearing my scorpion I hit my head at least once when I highsided and I was going 70 or so...the outside was fine..there was a large crack on the inside..It saved me once so I bought another scorpion only this time the exo-700

I'll stick with my $200 scorpion..

A 3.5 foot fall at, what, 2mph shouldn't damage a helmet like that. Imagine if you were on the highway. Get your money back (or at least part of it) and buy a better brand.

they say any drop from waist high or high the helmet should be replaced, or at the very least sent back for inspection

i dont think its necessarily the force of impact, any fall/drop will show damage, and any damage could possibly affect how the helmet holds up in a real crash.

If that were me it would be time for a new helmet...you dont want to mess with that shit. I now it sucks but you dont want to find out the hard way it was damaged in the drop.

id replace it too. kind of sucks that you have to go spend a few hundred on a new lid even though this one still looks fine. but id rather spend a few hundred now rather then get a head injury and wonder later if a new helmet would have prevented it.

    and new helmets rock!

    DROPPED MY HELMET!

From everything I've ever read/been told, helmets are designed to take one impact, big or small. The fact that the helmet absorbed the 3 foot fall shows that it did the job it was designed to do. I don't think you can fault the mfg for that. I have a feeling many brands of helmet would do the same from that fall.

    DROPPED MY HELMET!

I say replace it. Another good idea is to have a back up helmet. I have 3 helmets a Scorpion, an Arai, and a HJC. I use the Scorpion as my regular helmet because it fits me the best and IMHO looks the coolest but I know that if I ever drop it or such I have a helmet I can use until I get another Scorp or until I have enough money for another Scorp (ie money is tight sometimes).

P.S. 9/10 I place my helmet on the ground instead on the bike that way I can prevent those pesky 3 feet falls.

    DROPPED MY HELMET!

    GOOD NEWS!

Recieved an email from ICON today saying that they would replace my helmet for me! whoooho! That frees up a couple of hundred now maybe for some new tires?? anyway i've got to ship it to them tomorrow and hopefully they send me a new one quickly. The only thing that sucks is i will have to ride without a helmet for the meantime. Maybe i'll get one of those german ones with the spike

One of the Snell Foundation requirements is that the helmet will take 2 hits
