The hyper is a bike with what I believe is unbelievable potential.

    Stock it's a great bike.

Put a couple bucks into it it's the best bike.

Service intervals are reasonable for a duc. Still pricy though.

    Pros
-will always put a smile on your face
    -still unique
    -relatively cheap service costs
    -not super fast
    -shit loads of torque
    -wheelies on demand
-rides like a dirtbike to some degree
    -huge aftermarket

    Cons
    -Ducati factory tune sucks
-suspension is not good for long distance
    -wind protection is non existent
-the "relatively cheap" ownership costs are still much higher than Japanese alternatives
    -short fuel range
    -aftermarket is also costly

The good thing is if money is NOT a factor then everything on the cons list becomes a reason to put more money into the bike.

Even better news you have access to the greatest duc shop for support on the east coast. Seacoast sport cycle.

There is nothing to hate about the hyper unless you are the type of person that expects that a bike should be flawless from day one. Lol

    Re: duc hypermotard

I've testridden about 40 bikes in the last couple years, just to keep knowledgeable about current bikes, plus have 25 years of riding experience. The HyperMotard is the most fun bike I have ever ridden; if/when I need a new bike, that's at the top of my list. CA Cycleworks makes a 6-gallon tank, which gives it more than 200 miles of range, and also gets rid of the famous Ducati plastic tank expansion problem, so I'd fit that right away.

    Re: duc hypermotard

I've owned mostly only supersport style bikes and the "standard style" sv650. And when I took my HYM out for that first week when i bought it I was as happy as a kid in a candy store. It is for me the most fun bike to ride around town, comfy upright position, enough torque to go from point a to point b or ride around like a hooligan and pick up the front wheel. It's also comfy 2-up, and not even all that bad on the highway. Downside to it as someone else pointed out is the TINY gas tank but there are larger capacity fuel tanks to fix this for not too much money.

But don't make the mistake like I did and expect the bike to be that great at a TD. It doesn't handle like a motard nor a sportbike, not that it's totally bad but I myself could never get comfortable on the bike no matter what I did.

I heard this from someone at the track last year (can't remember who said it) but it suits the bike "The hypermotard is bipolar, on the streets its the best thing in the world. Put it on the track and it's all over the place and doesn't know what it wants to be."

With that said mine is for sale lol

the only reason not to like the bike are:

    a) you're a Ducati hater
    b) you hate the Hyper style

Other than that it's simply FUN to ride and I find it very comfortable. I'll never even consider selling it, it's the main reason I got back into riding after 10 years off

I've always wondered what are the big differences between the hyper1100 the monster 1100 and the street fighter 1100. They all seem to want to accomplish the same thing. I like them all and I've been thinking about another street ride for next year.

Monster and hyper share the same engine. Ergos and chassis are different.

The sf is a 1098 with standard bike Ergos.

Funny. I found it pretty natural to ride at a trackday. I was knee down by T3 on cold tires. It tracked straight for me on the straightaway too. Never quite understood all the problems people reported with it. It did start dragging pegs a little too early though.

Definitely a unique ride and a lot of fun.

Maybe its just me but I could not feel comfortable on it. But I should add that I've never ridden a motard or even a dirtbike in my life so I'm sure that plays a huge role in my opinion on the bike.

    Re: duc hypermotard

Don't even think about it anymore. Just go buy a hyper. The motor is a fantastic unit with gobs of torque, it's comfy as all hell, and it's just a blast to ride. I don't think I'll ever get rid of mine. The only complaints I have are the small fuel tank (again, larger ones are available), and the lean fueling makes the idle kinda prone to stalling until completely warmed up. You can buy a fatduc o2 manipulator to fix that for 75 bucks, it works perfect.

I commute with mine, ride it on dirt roads, paved roads, and Im doing track time too. It's super predictable and fun, especially if you set the suspension spring rate/sag for your weight, as you should with any bike.

You're not alone, many people complained about that thing on the track. It's no racebike, but I got along with it OK.
