40 K makes it a little pricey with less Hp than the 08 Busa.

    Nice track bike though....

When are you taking delivery Oreo ?

Well that is because the Hayabusa is a far superior motorcycle!

It's ok though, cuz this thing actually turns, stops and isn't offensive to look at.

I take delivery of the R once I get rid of my slow, no-name Aprilia, the one w/ only 120hp & 70 ft/lbs of torque at the wheel. Like you said, it's alright at a small track like Loudon, but I need something faster for the street since I can only power wheelie the Aprilia in 2nd gear, I'd have to clutch it up in 3rd.

Sure I seen some of those RSV's around VT in my mirrors.

Then you look again 4 or 5 miles later and they are nowhere to be found, and they certainly didn't pass me.

Better pics of the 848...and I saw these last week in Bologna and they are beautiful!

But this is the ultimate...the Desmosedici. As close to a MotoGP 4 cylinder Ducati as $82,000 can get you!

But this, sandwiched between the Ducati Tour Guides...is priceless. (Especially when the pic was taken by your wife!!! )

The 848 is really beautiful , but I can't get over the line:

At 168 kg (369 lbs) the 848 is an amazing 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, and a significant 5 kg (11 lbs) lighter than its larger capacity brother, the 1098.

Removing 44 lbs is impressive, but it's only 11 lbs lighter than the 1098? Something tells me the 848 and 1098 are sharing too many parts. Either that or their first attempt at a wet clutch is wicked heavy.

Well yeah, cuz guess what, it's nearly identical to the 1098 minus displacment. The fact that they shaved 11lbs & thousands of dollars should be impressive.

Look at all the japanese literbikes vs their 600 & 750cc counterparts.... not much difference in weight there, either.

You're right, I guess it is pretty common these days. However if the 848 is laying down significantly less power you'd think the bike shouldn't need to be quite as heavy.

The fact that the 848 is thousands less yet it's nearly identical to the 1098 makes me wonder how much production costs on these bikes really differ... The pricing strategy must be an interesting problem to figure out. Since they obviously make a lot more on the 1098 that explains why it came out first.

    Those are my roads.

I know quite a few more corners than the ones you ride in NH each weekend at Loudon.

Ducati is cutting the profit margin down so much because the cost of production is so similar, but you can't expect the 848 to sell for as much as the 1098.

If you look in the details (like calipers, for instance) you'll see that Ducati used components that are still awesome components, but slightly less expensive than the ones they used in the 1098. The production cost is very simliar, but that's how they reduced it slightly to help drop the MSRP.

Timmy likes his Busas doesn't he?

Ducatis have always been the most visually appealing bike around; I wish they'd make one that didn't require such expensive maintenance. Or an initial purchase price that I could afford.

Highsider, it is really not true any more about the Ducati servicing cost.

Oh, and my $0.02, the new Monster is not as nice as the old one. However, I hated the 999 when it first came out and now I think it's the best design Ducati ever made (including the 1098 and 916).

    derek

Glad that I'm not the only crazy one that doesn't like the new monster and did like the 999 hell I liked it from day one

They say that the maintenance is supposed to be 1/2 the cost on the new models. Which could still be a bit high since my 02 m620 needed a new motor after 6188 miles

A Tune Up INCLUDING Valve adjustment (not a JOB) would cost about that. (Although I have never paid that much)

That is once a season... How much does a tune up on an inline 4 cost?

And as I splained to you... Valve adjustments are not hard.
