    Ducati using Jap wheels

    Taken from Ducati.ms

Long story short, base model Ducati 848/1198 (including the Hayden 848) have Enkei wheels instead of the cast Marchesini/Brembo wheels. This wouldn't be a big deal but every advertisement they have put out for the base bikes have had the Marchesini wheels in it and DNA didn't start notifying the dealer network until about a week ago.

    Rather typical

Ever funnier was a Warranty Claim for a Hayden848 before one of the units had even been sold.

Sounds like much ado about nothing? Unless someone proves the Enkie's are noticeably heavier than the corresponding cast Marchesini/Brembo units the base bikes normally get... I don't see how it's an issue?

I'm not a Ducati guy so unless this is some kind of mortal sin in Ducati fans' eyes or the specs of the wheels are different then I don't see the issue.

Not having time to research it myself as I am getting ready to leave for work, do they look different? If so they should at least make the wheels they advertised with an option.

    +1, as does mine.

The only issue would be if the wheels had Marchesini stickers on em, and were in fact not. Then it'd just be plain funny.

    Re: Ducati using Jap wheels

I personally don't have a problem with the wheels but I do see why some people would bitch that they were told they were buying one thing and got another. Even the dealers were telling customers they were Marchesini wheels because they look exactly the same and DNA never told them about the switch until they were already using them for 7 months. DNA is saying that both wheels are the exact same spec but that doesn't change the fact they were advertising the bike with one thing and selling them with another.

I guess if I owned one at this point my concern would be if it would effect the resale value of the bike. Will these bikes have a stigma of "having the fake Marchesini wheels" making them less desirable.

I doubt it. Ducati got cheap on the later 748, lost the adjustable steering head Dzus clips Showa suspension and a couple other things, and the resale seems to be the same.

The guy that posted the thread on ducati.ms said that DNA told him to e-mail them explaining the problem and they would make sure it would get into the "right hands over in Italy". Not really sure what they plan on doing about it yet.
