More Electric Motorcylce News - Brammo again

Thought this was interesting. I know other stuff on the Brammo has been posted but this appears newish and I didn't see it already posted.
    Brammo - Enertia

    From the article...

"The Brammo Enertia has the honor of being one of the first electric motorcycles released to the public and easily available at retail, and now it's getting a heck of an upgrade. When we test-rode one last year it was a little thing with an $11,995 MSRP and a 40 mile range. Today Brammo is announcing its successor, the Enertia Plus. That bike will manage 80 miles to a charge and do so for $8,995. That's $1,000 more than the normal Enertia sells for today, though specs other than range remain the same. That means a weight of 324lbs, 30lb/ft of torque, and performance better suited to leisurely commutes than canyon carving -- though optional saddle bags (shown below) will let you do more with that extra stamina. The bike will be shipping sometime in 2011 and current Enertia owners will receive a very welcoming $2,500 rebate. You can't buy love, but that kind of treatment certainly should help with loyalty."

Kinda cool but I think I'll stick it out until we see some mainstream electric motorcycles that can tear the rear tires off.... the nice thing about electric is done correctly it is all torque all the time. The peak is always there. Now if someone would just do it correctly...

The technology will come around. I think the biggest thing is battling heat. We know how to make the power source, just gotta figure out a way to manage it safely and consistently.

I think the biggest problem is going 80 miles and having to wait for it to charge back up.

    That would do most commutes.

That is correct, but I think you will find a lot of people that share the attitude that you can buy a gas bike for less with more power that you don't need power naps every 80 miles. Small gas bikes are very good on gas so the savings over long term are negligible. I'm all for alternative fuels but this just seems more novel than anything.

True all around; I was disagreeing that the biggest issue is the limited range - I think that the greatest concern is cost. If the bike was near equal or equal in cost to a near-equivalent gas bike, you'd see considerable sales, I'm sure.

    Both will improve with time.

That's the biggest thing for me though. I'd pay more for an electric bike that had a range that I could live with, 80 doesn't cut the mustard. I hope they do improve. I need more videos of that guy stoving that drag bike. lol

Money drives technology, Alex. Let's see where these things are in 5 years. I highly doubt it's a fad rather the beginning of a new horizon in motorcycling.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your use of the word "novel", sounded to me like your opinion was that this was just a catchy trend and nothing more.

Yes, at this point the only thing that would warrant spending that much is that it is strikingly new or different (novel) because other gas machines do everything better for less. I do not feel that alternative fuels are a trend but there are big hurdles to jump before they become mainstream and not just novel purchases.

Agree... I support alternate technologies but I'm way too practical of a person to spend more than double the price of a cheap commuter bike just to get an electric commuter bike to do the exact same thing but without the option of light touring...
