thanks couldn't get link at work.

That time is what is going to kill it. good step but the recharge downtime compared to convetional, along with the price tag is a huge hurdle right now.

battery technology still has a long way to go.

now if they could pack a hydrogen fuel cell into a bike and make it safe (no explosions) that would be the ticket.

    Way too expensive
    range sucks
    recharge time blows
    ugly as fuck

    p.s

Hydrogen may be clean but the energy needed to produce it+the storage and transportation make it just as dirty as gas

Your right on with all but one point- the range. None of my bikes ever went more than 150 miles on a tank.

    Wonder what it weighs.

Also, I could do without the 60's-styled vent cover looking thing.

Very true, but then again waiting that long for your bike to recharge sucks and how much coal are they burning to bring you two hours of 220?

    Re: Electric Super Bike

Top gear had an electric car episode a while back. They tested the Tesla.

Even though the range is said to be 150 miles, I bet that is commuter speeds or less. If you decided to thrash on it through the twisties, or track etc.. you would see a couple things.

First, such a big drain on the batteries could cause them to overheat, thus cutting your performance to 0. Overheated batteries could mean an explosion or failure. They found the tesla couldn't handle more than a lap or two of aggressive driving.

Second, the run time with aggressive driving (range) is probably way below 100 miles.

Curious they forgot to weigh it ??

Lets see there is Jay Leno, Ed bagley Jr., 2 museums so thats 4 sold

Hydrogen is a joke unless you are willing to build 300 nuke plants to make it

Don't worry eco freaks will simply outlaw motorcycles above 250 cc problem solved.

I calculate out its the equivalent of ~3/4 of a gallon of gasoline as far as how much energy is used to do a 2 hour recharge. I guessed it was a 60amp 220 volt feed which came out to about 26kwh. Thats actually not that cheap to recharge. My electric rate in Mass was $.25/kwh with all the taxes and fees added in. A little off topic but I pay $.04kwh down here in Texas. Thats the difference between a $6.50 recharge and one that only costs $1.

I think the styling goes the same route as the Prius, eco snobbery. You want the vehicle to look very different so everyone instantly knows your saving the planet.

But it doesn't take you 2 hours to fill the gas tank. Thus if you wanted to, ya couldn't go for an all day ride on this thing like you can a regular bike.

And, as stated above, if you were to flog it in the twisties there's a good possibility that the range would drop off dramatically.

    Re: Electric Super Bike

I have to agree that there are a lot of changes involved when going to a non-gas powered cycle. However I am glad to see something coming out.

Electric powered vehicles could be part of a solution to getting away from fossil fuel. They still need to be powered up, which uses energy. Currently most electric power in the world is produced from fossil fuel. If there is a shift away from that it WILL help the environment.

Additionally it is easier to clean up and make electricity more efficiently at the power plant level than at the vehicle level. Power plants can and are optimized to run at peak efficiency, which is much better than any car or motorcycle. This includes coal, oil, gas & Nuke etc.

    Re: Electric Super Bike

If RENEWABLES electrics are doubled they don't keep up with increased demands

80% of our electricity comes from fossil fuels

Hydrogen is a storage system... we make hydrogen at a net energy loss.
