When are the teams going to get smart and start negotiating HUGE fines & bench time for this kind of stuff.

It is their investment and it is not that hard to stay off the bike in order to have such a fun & lucrative career for 10 years. Plenty of time to pose on bikes later.

There is all the talk of 2nd or 3rd concussions occurring more easily.. what if he got one in this bike accident and it causes him to go down the Steve Young path a little earlier in his career then normal... what a waste.

ESPN did a story about that about a year ago when Kevin Winslow crashed his bike. Something about the NFL having a rule that teams cannot control what their player can and cannot do in the off season and they cannot "peinalize" them for their stupidity.

Apparently he was riding a 2005 Hayabusa with no helmet... gimme a break ! Went head on into a Chrysler New Yorker that turned left into his lane.

Would he go to the line of scrimmage with no helmet ?

Many do. Usually some part in the contract says 'must not participate in activites with elevated risk of injury'. Maybe not in the NFL but I'm pretty sure the NBA allows it.

Thought I heard something about knee injuries as well.

I never listen to the radio in the morning, but flipped it on just in time to hear the Hillman morning show talk about it on AAF. The comment from Lyndon Byers to people complaining about him not wearing a helmet was something to the effect of how a helmet would not have saved his face anyway. I'm guessing LB has never seen a full face helmet?

I watched Sportscenter this morning. They said that Ben Rothblahburger was NOT wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Listening to WEEI today, and some surgeon called in, said 50% of motoryclists will have a fatal, or near fatal crash.

I have no idea where he got that stat from, but hopefully it's inflated.

Yea, if Ben was wearing a full face helmet, he probably would have minimal injuries. Nothing serious to his body, just head/face.

According to the news helmets are required for anyone:

- Under 21
- Riding on a permit without a license
- Who has not taken MSF
