I think the strangest thing ive ever come across was a quad that a customer had just purchased that wouldnt crank. Turned out the engine was empty. No crank, transmission, valvetrain, etc. Just a empty shell.

The number 1 thing I look for when I get a used bike is any tampering with the wiring. It's easy to fix things that mice or water or a crash has caused. It's a whole other story when some dumbass has rewired the whole bike because he read about how to do it online and nothing makes sense anymore. Ideally never buy a bike that has been modified at all. 99.99% of the time it's done wrong and makes things worse not better. OEM parts are also so much more expensive and better quality than most of the aftermarket crap people put on their bikes and cars, so returning something to stock usually costs more than the original mod.
