Escrow service for buying bike long distance?

Im probably buying a bike out of Philadelphia that I plan to ship. Dont know the seller at all....

Anybody have an insight to escrow services to protect me? How does it work? How would I find one? What are general costs?

    Ready? Go!

    Thanks!

I have used Escrow.com for sales on some larger Internet properties, but the principle is the same for vehicles. It's a fairly painless process in my experience:

Securely Buy & Sell Vehicles Online - Escrow.com

Basically, put your money in escrow, they deliver the goods, you approve it, they get paid. Downside is the fee, but good for peace of mind.

If it's Philly, I'd drive down and trailer it back.

Yup, that's definitely close enough to go get it, inspect it, and deal in person......

Day off work = $480, gas to Philly and back = who the fuck knows, but probably $300, 6 hour ride each way with no traffic = epic aggrivation.

Keyboard shippers = $625 to my door.

Not that hard a decision for me....

As far as inspecting the bike...its kinda racy, so...whatever

Are you getting a title with it? I've bought 2 bikes from PA and both times a notary needed to sign/stamp the title after witnessing me and the seller sign. Only state I've ever seen/heard that in. Just an FYI.

Just to beat a dead horse, I sold my last bike to a guy in CO and used Escrow.com. Worked well.

Re: Escrow service for buying bike long distance?

    I checked out escrow.com and safepayescrow.com

Reviews were similar and safepay was $50 less, so I went with them.

Just waiting on date from the shipper. Then, new racebike on the way.....

How much is the total cost for escrow? Is it a percentage?

I'm looking at a bike in OH.

It was a percentage. $7000 escrow, $120 fee
