    EU helmets

What is your view on buying EC rated helmets from OUS with no DOT for street riding?

Yeah, but is that really a concern, would the officer take notice?

I doubt a cop would check but I wouldn't take chances with an insurance company if it came to that.

    Re: EU helmets

With a full face, it is unlikely they would even check.

The only concern I would have is if there were an accident and there were any sort of a "legal battle". Even though the helmet likely meets or exceeds the requirements, the fact that it isn't "certified" as required could be a sticky point.

From a safety standpoint I would have no issue wearing an EC helmet rather than a DOT.

Even if they noticed, you can still try and explain that the helmet does conform to some safety standard that is arguably on-par with DOT. It might not meet the letter of the law, but it meets the intent and hopefully an officer would recognize that. Personally, I wouldn't be that concerned about this aspect.

However - insurance would be my concern. If you had a severe head injury wearing one, I'd be concerned about denied claims. I wonder if an insurance rep can confirm or deny whether they need DOT?

Unfortunately I have had multiple crashes, and I have never had the insurance company ask about my helmet. One was at the track and I lost consciousness

EU/EC is actually more stringent than SNELL.

I agree, I am just curious from a regulatory standpoint
