Tuono
step 1 - remove petcock
step 2 - open petcock
step 3 - remove all the shit inside (rubber diaphragm and spring)
step 4 - make your own 0-ring gasket
step 5 - reassemble petcock with only the 0-ring gasket inside
step 6 - ?
Step 7 - profit

Or you can get a Pingle.
All of Pingle's units are thread in style... but they sell mounting plates for two bolt setups like the EX uses, so you get to choose which style petcock you want, and then just use the right mounting plate to install it on your tank.
If you go with a non race unit with a reserve, plan on pulling the screen off and trimming down the primary feed tube, they make them stupidly tall for some reason. Use your old petcock as a guide.

Email Pingle support with your mounting dimensions, and how you want the fuel line to enter the petcock (ie straight down, out to the side, etc) and they'll get you all the info you need.
I put one on my GS for I'm guessing the same reason you're looking to ditch the OEM setup, the vacuum setup doesn't hold up over time, and likes to starve the bike for fuel in some situations. Mine works great, although I spent a lot of time blaming it for what turned out to be electrical and other carb issues I believe. Since sorting those, the bike's run like a top with it.
What Pete said. Just empty that thing out. Worked for me.

ill try gutting it first, i just didnt know if the "off" feature would still work
Tuono
Yup. Off still works.
Only difference is that On is On all the time, not just when there is suction.
