    Close call

Seems like he could have stopped in time so I can't tell whether he laid it down on purpose or just panicked and lost it. Either way hes a luck motherFer.

He could have done a number of things there. None of which should have been jumping off his bike.

I don't speak a single word of Russian, but I can hear the truck driver say "Are you OK? What the fuck were you thinking?"

Application of brakes would likely have been a better technique than bailing, but what do I know.

I was thinking it was "Are you okay? That was motherfucking cool as hell doode."

At least we've got the first part ironed out.

Yeah that sucks. Panic braked & locked the front. You can see it fold.

Tough thing to avoid when you look over your shoulder for a split second, look back and see a BIG FUCKING TRUCK STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I woulda shat myself, too.

    Re: Close call

I feel as if he was traveling way too fast through that little town, and was not looking far enough ahead of him. If I see a truck turning through several lanes of traffic (like I could clearly see in the video), I'm not going to speed up.

    Re: Close call

He locked the front wheel, I have had the exact same experience. I tried hard not to lock the wheel, but it's hard to wait for the weight to transfer to the front wheel when you're surprised by something you're about to hit -- I got impatient.

This type of situation is a good argument for ABS brakes.

That truck seriously tried to make a right from the far left lane?? Over 3 lanes of traffic? Blame the biker all you want, that truck driver is straight retarded.

Had a trucker do that to me the other day. Either his trailer blinkers weren't working, or he wasn't using 'em.

Of course I was going far slower.

Did you scratch it up when you laid it down?

    Re: Close call

He was wearing full gear. Not that it's an excuse, but may have saved him from a few days in the hospital and a month of rehab. I'd like to think I would be able to control my actions and brake properly to easily slow down for that truck. It really looks like he had tons of room. But, in that situation I imagine I would have ended up on the pavement for a while too. Hopefully praising my gear the whole way.

I'm a little bit surprised at how quickly he came to a stop. DOesn't look like he impacted the truck tire all that hard?

    Re: Close call

Theres no way he would have had a problem stopping in time. He was almost stopped from sliding before he got to the truck. Last I checked tires slide alot less easier than lether. Hes very lucky he didn't lose a foot to his panic.

This type of situation is a good argument for ABS brakes.
Joe this is not a good arguement for abs, it is a good arguement for rider training lol.

Honestly even with abs you will benefit much more from not locking them up to begin with than just crushing the lever to the bar and letting your abs do the work for you.
Having abs is definately saver than not but most new or casual riders that have it will just use it as a crush or an excuse to not have to learn to brake properly.

Edit* I'm not picking on you for your situation Joe, I've had them too. Just saying that in this instance it was pure lack of skill that led to this, not lack of tech.
