the scoop I got from my neighbor is that he was playing "catch up" to his friends.... not sure if that is the case or not, but certainly a reminder to "ride your own ride"

    Fatal on Rt 153

Wow that is truely upsetting to hear. Our ride up to 113 yesturday crossed 153 about that time. I wonder if it was one of the groups we passed? Very sad. This time of year is dangerous with all the road hazards as I stated in a this post. http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...threadid=13181
Please take a look, and always ride your own ride = not riding above you abilities. As you see much to the unfortunate outcome of this riders crash your risking your life riding these bikes, take every precaution you can...

The location & corner sound eerily familiar to where I crashed on route 153 a few years back...

this year i went on many a group ride on unfamilar roads. i rode to "catch up" many times. i learned by the end of the season screw it ride your own ride. if you ride with good people they will wait for you. the group i rode with most of the year did for anybody running a slower pace.

It's up to everyone involved on the ride to ensure that everyone's safe. The leaders need to be aware that there WILL be slower riders and they'll hafta wait for them at some point. More importantly is that the slower riders realize that they're over their heads trying to keep up...

The latter is why I don't do group rides anymore. I've led far too many rides when the slower people were making INSANE moves strictly to keep up with the faster riders. I personally didn't want that responsibility any longer...

I feel horrible for his friends & family...

I will be the first to admit that I typically am nowhere near the fastest in my groups, and thusly tend to wave riders by me in the twisties so that I can go at my own pace and so can they (Half Squid can attest to this). Keeping up with the group isn't worth my life. I'd rather have fun on some great roads at my own pace than go at it faster than I feel comfortable and then pray that I will stay on the road. Thats not my idea of fun.

Ain't it the truth? I don't know how many times I've actually told people (bluntly, but not rudely) to take it easy; that we'd wait when needed to; that we won't lose anybody; to STOP passing with oncoming traffic; that just because we make the pass doesn't mean YOU can (at particular moments). Never fuggin' fails though: Trow the leg over, grab some trottle, and they're back at it...

Some people don't realize that you don't need to be INVOLVED in a crash. Just being around when it happens can have devistating effects on people...

It is all find and dandy to say you are going to ride your own ride, but so many people have their manhood & ego wrapped up in how fast they can ride.

One reason I am always telling people to go workout, ride a bicycle, etc.. get the rage and adrenaline out of your system in a safer place, and then ride the motorcycle like you're a zen master or something.

I know what you mean. I will be the first one to let people know I am a slow fucker on my bike. I have only been riding for 2 years and I have do desire to try and keep up with the people that have been riding for 10+ years.

    Fatal on Rt 153

Riding "over" your head=disaster I like to run pretty fast, but I only go fast in the corners on familiar roads. If I'm craving speed, I pre-run the roads to be sure that theres no dirt, dead animals etc, before I twist it up. I've crashed out when I didn't pre-run, there was some dirt in a sweeper, apparently a car/truck went off the road and kicked dirt and grass all over the corner. Bad thing to find out at speed hahaha
Well thats my story and I'm sticking too it!
