    Fixing a totaled bike?

Here's my story, short and sweet.

Riding, cornering, misuse of brake, sliding, flipping, tumbling, searching... for the bike that went WAY THE FUCK into the woods.

Main frame section was fine, subframe slightly tweeked, (make that, snapped and twisted, see photo of Degsy fixing it). No plastic piece survived...

So it is fixed now... runs great. I haven't noticed any changes in the way it runs.

    Fixing a totaled bike?

The frame apparently is fine. When I hit the ladder the bike went down on it's right side, and stayed down. It just has all right side damage. Plastic, exhuast, windscreen

    Fixing a totaled bike?

Right, it's an easy task. But that's not what I'm looking for. It's been without oil, now for a whole month, and my question is, will it ride the same as it did before the accident. I'm looking for input on what others have regarding being in an accident and weither or not the bike will ever truely ride the same as it did before the accident.
    Thanks

If the insurance company is wiling to total out the bike, will they replace it with a brand new bike? If yours was all stock why not just go for a new bike?

Have the forks checked too. You'd be amazed at how easy those buggers will twist. JC's right about the lack of oil. Replace the cover that let the oil escape, replace the filter and oil. Start 'er up and let 'er idle for a few minutes before you take off. And go easy for the first 100 or so miles to make sure there's no metal shavings in there. Maybe even change the oil again after that 100 miles or so. But if the frame and forks and swingarm are all straight, I don't see what the problemo would be...

    Fixing a totaled bike?

I have bought and sold about 30 wrecked bikes. my rule of thumb is that if it starts and runs an I can take it down the road at 120mph. without vibrations I fix it,, if not I cut it up for parts... The one thing I have done with a lot of bike before getting on them is re-align the forks in the triple tree, by loosing the fork bolts on the bottom and compressing the forks 4or 5 times, then re-tighten.. I am sure that after yours went down that your fork tubes would be twisted

apperently the forks were pulled apart and were fine. I think I found my answer. I found the same bike a left over 99 with no milage on it. I think I'm going to take the money and run to New York.
    Thanks for the input.
