flushmounts

    Hey,
Anyone have any problems getting a sticker in Mass for having flushmounts. Went to the dealer to get some for a winter project to keep me sane. They sell them, but said they wouldn't give me an inspection sticker!! The guy was telling me how most people change them to get the sticker and then change back!! That sounds ridiculous!

    Cause they're only slightly illegal.

If they don't meet DOT or state standards - don't expect them to pass on a state inspection. Ditto that for rearsets/pegs with no rear brakelight attachment (if you're so inclined).

A good trick is to go to either a place that specializes in customizing Hardley's or sportbikes, NOT a dealer. Dealers have a lot more to lose if they get popped...

I've been lucky so far up here. There's a coupla places I can go and they won't even look twice at my directionals and/or undertail. Mostly 'cuz they have no clue as to what a stock sportbike is supposed to look like...

    gixx6man, this worked for me:

Bring you OEM flashers with you and tools to swap them. Then ask if they would like the OEM's put back on. Tell them you will swap them out right here and now in their parking lot and then swap them back right here in your parking lot after they sicker it.

    See what they say.

I always just took the words of the guys that work there as bond. Next time Im bringing some lawbooks with me

As stated in 540 CMR 4.06a (State of Massachusetts Regulations):

Each motorcycle shall have either a split service brake system or two independently actuated service brake systems which, upon application, act on front and rear wheels. Any motorcycle which has a number plate issued under the provisions M.G.L. chapter 90, §6A (Plates for antique motor cars) which was not manufactured with either a split service brake system or two independently actuated service brake systems shall be required to have one brake system adequate to stop said motorcycle within the aforementioned distances.

JC thanks for making my slackful ass look this up - Im glad I did, now I don't even have to change insp. stations (or install brake switches) .

As for the dude who asked about the flushmounts - I guess you have your answer, and then some .

If you get in good with your inspection places (car and bike) you'd be suprised what will pass.

I installed euro style amber lights in the top corner of the headlights and the bike inspection guy actually told me that I should take the front blinkers off completely and use the euro lights for my blinkers.

My car...where do I start on that one

Thanks for all the info. I am going to do it this winter. I just went over to a custom harley shop and they don't even put blinkers on a majority of their customs!! Go figure.
