    Forged Aluminum Wheels

Been thinking about putting a pay check towards some Galespeed Wheels...did a thread search and found some people that threw down (for aluminum wheels), but no updates on how they are holding up.

Would I be making a mistake riding the harsh roads of NE with these bad boys on my Street Bike?

GALESPEED Wheels Rims Forged Aluminum forged magnesium wheels, and rims

DO NOT wanna throw down and then bend a rim...thanks for the knowledge

    Re: Forged Aluminum Wheels

Put it this way, I had a set of PM spun aluminum wheels (which are supposed to be stronger than forged) on my '02 Gixxer 1000 and I bent the lip of the front wheel from hitting an average sized pothole...

Thanks Oxx, they knocked 8-10 lb's off the stock wheels and the difference in handling is noticable. Regards, Jake

I would say keep the paycheck. What difference does it make on the street? It's just bling. Save up for a new bike and the handling difference will be night and day!

Jake's bike does look better than stock though.

    Re: Forged Aluminum Wheels

I run a set of Marchesinis on my 1000 and they are the best money I've spent on the entire bike! Hands down! (and that's saying a lot, there's over $25K in this bike). The improvements in acceleration, breaking, and handling were way more than I expected.

I have marchesini forged alum. on my 636 and think they rule...they look badass, work badass, but for 2000-2400 bucks I probably would have never bought them if they didn't come on the bike.

    Re: Forged Aluminum Wheels

    Hey Freak,
I put forged Alum. wheels(OZ) on my Aprilia Tuono(Stock on the Factory model). Of all the money I've put into the Tuono the Wheels made the biggest difference!! I live in RI & have hit many pot holes which I thought would cause a problem & they are as good as new!
When I went out on the first ride with the forged wheels I went into a corner that I make most every day & almost road up on the curb!!! They make that much differences. The bike handles & accelerates better & runs smoother.
It may sound like a lot of money but it's worth it if you ride hard.

It would be money well spent. Throw in a 520 chain conversion at the same time and you will be amazed.

I'd take that money and throw it into suspension if you haven't yet.

my suspension is actually nice and tight, I'm impressed with it at 14k miles... besides do I really need to spend $1,500 on upgraded susension?

ive never ridden forged/spun magnesium, aluminum or carbon wheels, but just hearing from other people who have, they all make a remarkeable difference. however if you ding up forged mag or al most places wont touch them to get them straight again

    Re: Forged Aluminum Wheels

They will def make a big difference. Think about Ducatis and other exotic bikes that come stock with them. I would favor Marchesinis or Marvics personally for that reason. If they are good enough for Ducati, they are good enough for me.

Are these going on the 9R? Not trying to be a dick, but wouldn't that money be better spent on a bike upgrade if you are really looking for a performance upgrade? Or do you just really like the bike? I remember them being pretty heavy and it doesn't seem like wheels are going to fix that... My girlfriends (unprompted) response when I told her what I was reading -- "Isn't that like putting lipstick on a pig?" haha She works with a guy with a 9R...

Either way, new wheels will be sick and you will love them. You should do your best to keep out of the pot holes anyway, so no change in that respect.
