The Perfect New CBR1000RR Tail Section

    Hey all,

I just thought I share some pictures of my project for the past weekend. I have allways wanted to do this mod since I originally bought my CBR but never really got around to it. Took about a week of work and more cash that I originally want to spend, however, I really think it was worth it.

I had to mod the rear of the subframe and do some fiber glass work in order to get the end product that I wanted. I also bought the factory paint and had my bodyshop guy spray it.

Here are some pictures of my new tail section:

And a picture of the OEM tail section and another of the aftermarket one that I had there before:

    That looks great!

The profile picture makes it worth it. You did a great job. Any problems inspecting it with those blinkers?

Thanks man!! I guess I'll find about about that pretty soon. However, I spoke with one of the guys at the dealership/inspection place and he told me that I should be fine.

wow, that's impressive...I'd love to do similar but that's a labor of love right there.

So then what did you do with the old aftermarket one you had? I have a silver RR that is in desperate need of being sans OEM undertail section.

I actually modified my aftermarket one. It used to be a Taylormade Racing carbon fiber piece that I moded. Here is the link to the taylormade website:

    http://www.racetaylormade.com/tmpages/access.html#H8e

Notice how the taylormade piece has a round light and a bulge on the bottom? The reason that bottom is there is because the subframe has a nut on the rear. I had to mod the subframe in order to get my undertail to fit.

On another note, the taylormade CF piece is by far the best aftermarket piece you can get here in the States. I highly recommend it. BTW check out the sweet GP style exhaust while you are in the Taylormade website.

How far apart are the LEDs? IIRC, they have to be 5" apart and visible from 60 feet in MA. That's if the inspection station wants to give you a hard time.

BTW, nice looking mod. I need to clean up the tail of my CBR. I was thinking about going with the R&G Tail Tidy, but it's very expensive for the '08.

    Dan,

I would really consider the taylormade racing. It will give you a similar GP look and it is made of high quality carbon fiber. The taylormade will cost you $225 for the full kit (FE, Tag holder and turn signals).

Now, although I can't vouch for it, lightech makes this real nice looking piece: http://www.oppracing.com/show_produc...0rr-2008-2009/

Thanks Eddie. I'll take a closer look at both of those. I blew my bike budget for the next month or two already, but hope to get a FE kit before the season's over.

Re: The Perfect New CBR1000RR Tail Section

    Thanks Eddie.

Dan, I believe the tail tidy folks make a newer cheaper kit for the 08, but the part says it's for the 2010 model and the description says otherwise.

    Taylormade is nice...and real CF...hmm.
