    Re: Forks...

my SV forks are weird. First under hard braking it feels soft and it dives a bit (ive learned to use a bit of rear brake to get the bike to squat instead of dive) .. but then hit a succession of bumps or road features in a row and it feels over damped or something i dunno. also my SV makes some great clunk sounds over stuff like that too, even though everything is tight and in good order. i think just hearing a clunk adds to the effect and makes it worse haha.

When i ride over the same bumps/roads on a gsx-r it is somehow less dramatic, but it also has a steering dampner so maybe thats adding to the feel. alot of people just upgrade their forks with 20 or 15wt. oil and sonic or racetech springs etc. ALOT cheaper.

adjusting the settings on our bikes doesnt do much if anything. however i did turn in my front screws about two full turns from stock (more preload but not maxed out), and notched the rear preload up a notch and then put it back to stock. adjusting preload isnt really the problem

ok shit i didnt comprehend your post.. I have the info for you in one second!

    Re: Forks...

I don't know what SV forks look like, presume they're conventional damper rod non-inverted type.

    Simple CHEAP fix:

If it was me I'd drain them and refill with a bit heavier oil, then preload the springs some while re-assembling.
Pick up a stack of washers with an OD to match the ID of the fork tubes and place 2 or 3 atop each spring when reassembling.
You might need to experiment some, add some washers, ride it some and decide if you want a little more.

I wouldn't advise preloading without going up a bit in oil viscosity as well, and don't overdo that 'uppage' either.

This simple mod can make a big improvement in feel.
Less 'squishy', less dive and compression when braking will be slower and more controlled.

    Re: Forks...

Jackie have you set your static sag??? It made a world of a difference when I had mine set properly. Also iIt could be that the fork oil in the forks is spent! Time for a visit to GMD computrack! I wouldnt dive into new forks just yet. Try the two options above first and save yourself some money.

    Re: Forks...

The issue with the GSXR conversion is the loss of the stearing stop in some situations. IMO I wouldnt suggest you tackle a GSXR conversion unless you have the full scope of what you are getting yoursefl into.

There are guys at the track running serious times on stock front ends that have been reworked. I would check into that option first. FYI I have owned a 650 before and I just reworked the front end.

+1. They did my static sag for me. I think I'm due for a fluid flush but I'm going to wait till the fall when things are less crazy.

Really? Nothing wrong w/ doing a proper conversion. I have had GSXR and Busa forks on my TL, R1 forks on my FZ1, etc...all been by PK.

Problem is when you just drop something in because it fits and assume its got to be better out of the box because it came from a supersport. It still has to be sprung & valved for your application; and there could be other issues like range of travel, geometry, etc...which may make it less useful than the OEM stuff.

Sportygurl: I agree w/ the others by first looking at what you can do w/ the OEM suspension. Set sag and damping the best you can. From there, springing and valving can do wonders.

Best thing I ever did was throw in a set of [Sonic] springs and the emulator was iceing on the cake. See Tricky Mike.

    Here is a link: springs
    and another: svrider

You can do a lot with the stock suspension, a few guys on SVR have posted incredible lap times with the stock suspension. If you do go the GSXR route, see PK and have him adjust your geometry settings. Also make sure to have the forks revalved for your weight. There is no point in switching to a better setup if it is not tuned for the rider. Pretty pricey for a 'better' suspension, IMO.
