How hard was it to install? $150 is pretty cheap.

Glad you did it the right way. I hate it when people install HID lights in Halogen reflector housings.

    Duey,

    How much work was that?
Looks great. I'm thinking of doing it to my old SS1000ds.

I own an hid retrofitting company now so yeah it would be so wrong on many levels if I stuck in an eBay hid kit lol

    Prices can vary on a retro depending on which components but basic quick breakdown ;

    Projector $60
    Bulb $25
    Ballast $50
    Custom relay harness $30

So $165 in parts and it took me about 10hours (other bikes could be faster or even longer) start to finish to install.

If enough people express interest I could sign up to be a vendor and offer my services if others might want some work done.

Wonder how hard this'd be to retrofit to the multistrada. Stock lights could be better, but dont want to go the 'hid in a halogen housing' route.

I did an older multistrada few years back using a projector much bigger than what I used for my HYM and it worked out great, sadly i never took pics but it looks totally OEM since that bike came with a projector from Ducati. But the new MS is a different story since it looks very shallow, with out having the bike in front of me and headlights off the bike its really hard to tell if any true HID projector out there is small enough to be squeezed into that headlight housing.

Good to see many of you against plug and play HID kits in halogen headlights. Majority of the folks out there just don't understand the whole concept of lighting but this is due to not having many sources out there to educate the masses about true hid lighting upgrades. I'll be doing a side by side comparison of my retrofit vs. oem and a pnp hid kit to show the guys who are wondering why i do what i do, so you can have a better understanding of the differences of the 3.

Re: Bi-Xenon HID Retrofit on my new hypermotard :D

Would it be tough to build a dual HID lighting setup without any external enclosure, or do the reflectors need to be sealed? Reason I ask is because I have a custom TLS naked setup that I have thought about retroing HID's for, and since I don't use the stock headlights I simply would mount the HID's to the forks.

    Duey,
how about pricing out doing that to a '07 1098S. I'd love to have more lighting for night riding.

The HID projectors themselves do need to be in a sealed enclosure. But I've made watertight enclosures for them with fiberglass or if you don't mind the look PVC endcaps with some creativity of course.

Another option for you would be these : Blazer foglights

few output shots of them here.
    http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...l=1#post350844

Even though they are a "fog" light the beam patter is neutral enough to use as a main light source on a motorcycle. They still offer a clean and crisp cutoff with an HID bulb in it with no noticeable glare. And of course being a foglight assembly means its fully water proof.

I've installed these on a zuma and ruckus and the light overshadows some cars OEM HID's.

    It looks Awesome....

    a couple of dumb questions....

Is there anyway with the hyper to recess the HID more? Can the reflector be painted or polished aluminum without decreasing the benefit to installing HID's? Did you do any type of LED lighting where the parking lights are?

If any of this makes sense could you shoot me a quote for another hyper assembly? or is that outside the realm of "proper install"?

like i said, kinda dumb questions.

    Thanks

Because of the space constraints I can only maybe recess the projector maybe another 1/8"-1/4" but doing so would require custom work to the rear of the headlamp assembly, and in doing that would require some fancy re-routing of the wiring behind the headlight again since its really tight in that area.

All the present chrome parts can be painted (I plan on doing this to mines in a few days) with no ill effects to the HID beam pattern.

On the parking light LEDs I ended up buying a cheap pair of LED bulbs from an auto parts store and rewired them to accept 2x 1 watt LED's. I have a friend that purchased these : http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...%2FWLED-x5.htm and tossed them into the parking lights and they look just as great for a reasonable price.

    awesome!

thanks for the info... definitely something i have wanted to do for a long time (yeah the lighting on the hyper blows) and you have clearly demonstrated the "proper" way to do it....

I thought about this project all weekend. It dawned on me, these projector style lights have a defined cut-off line at the top of the beam. How does that affect the ability to see through a corner (like an on-ramp) at night? Have you had the chance to use them through some poorly lit corners Duey?

These are bi-xenon headlights. The low beam will have the sharp cutoff, but the highbeam has a much higher area of light output.
