my best friend went down today

Tonight me, Rikard, and Taylor (those of you on recent NESR group rides may remember Taylor and Rikard) went out for diner. As we are waiting to order I check my voice mail...


"Hello Chris, this is a nurse at MGH hospital. Your friend Rich was in a serious motorcycle accident today. he asked that we notify you as to his admitted to the hospital via the emergency room".

my heart sank. the three of us ran over to MGH as fast as we could get there. he has a broken hip, damaged liver, and possibly issues with spleen and bladder. he rides (or rode) a 2005 V-Star (yes, a cruiser) and wasn't going very fast when he went down. I dont know all the details of the crash as of yet. needless to say, i'm really stessed out.

I will be blowing off work tomorrow, but it wont be to go riding like I had planned. I'm gonna hang out with him all day at the hospital becuase he *can't* go riding. I have to call his *mom* and tell her tomorow. I am NOT looking forward to that one at all.

just got a call from sedition who was just running over to dunkin donuts to get him a coffee.

he's doing a lot better today, not as doped up as when we saw him last night. they're going to get him on his feet tomorrow and get him up to a family member's place in a couple days.

think we're gonna head over this evening and have a round of poker in his room if he isn't too exhausted from all his visitors today.

not too sure how bad the bike is at this point. was brand new last fall, so it's likely that it'll be an insurance type deal with regards to getting it fixed
