New front tire mounted, now can't mount wheel.....

So like title states, I had a new Bridgestone front tire mounted today for my 2009 Yamaha Fz1 and when I went to re-install the front wheel the axle would not go all the through to the left fork tube.
I noticed the right front caliper had a lot of pressure on it, when I unmount the right caliper the axle slides right into place. Now the right caliper lower mounting hole/tab will not line with the mounting tab.......

The spacers on the front axle appear to be interchangeable from left to right.
    Any ideas?

Re: New front tire mounted, now can't mount wheel.....

After 3hrs I have surrendered, I can't move either the left or right wheel bearing. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume I should be able to spin the wheel bearings, plus I noticed a gap between the dust seals and the bearings, which I do not remember being there before. I also tried mounting the wheel once without the calipers. I noticed with the axle tight there was a gap between the right fork leg and the spacer.....

My only conclusion beyond all motorcycle shops suck, is somehow while mounting the new tire the wheel bearings were compressed further into the wheel?....

Right caliper outside, not the the caliper contacting the rotor surface. Unable to put both mounting bolts into caliper.

    Right caliper inside, large gap.

Did you try pushing the caliper pots in, then put the wheel in, then pump the brakes and see how they lie?

I did compress the pistons, but never pumped them up because I could not get both mounting bolts in.

    Wheel direction is correct.

For those that have mounted tires, would it be possible to push the wheel bearings further in the wheel while mounting the tire?

Maybe on the balancer if you wrenched it on there. Youd have to try really hard though.

I'd expect the nut on the balancer to strip before you crushed the internal spacer in that wheel?

Not to pry, but are you going by the direction arrow of the tire or wheel?

Theres a spacer inside the wheel that would/should prevent the bearings from going in too far. That said. If you cant spin the bearings then you have other problems. Either the bearings are bad and the shop didnt notice/ didnt tell you or youre doing it wrong.

Wheel was backwards , thanks Oxx....

Sidenote would you have any concerns over not being able to spin the wheel bearings with your fingertips?

a little, but i dont have them in my hand. youre saying that you stick your finger in the hole where the axle goes and the inner race doesnt spin at all? if so...replace bearings

does that mean that the tire is mounted on the wheel backwards or did you completely go brain dead?

I so know how you feel...

Looks like I reversed the cables on my exhaust valve motor. Darn rookie tech mistake. They've taken the bike from 48 HP to a whopping 138 HP.

Correct, I'm wondering if between some residual grease from sliding the axle in/out and dirty fingers that my fingers were just slipping and not getting a good grip?.... If that makes any sense. Mounted the wheel and rode it 40 miles, the wheel, spacers and axel were cool to touch when I got home.

Re: New front tire mounted, now can't mount wheel.....

I once put my wheel on backwards and just could not figure out why the left rotor (contoured) was making a clicking sound at the caliper. wasn't me who figured it out.
Heard a guy behind me at the races getting all pissed that his wheel was all fucked up cause the quick change front end wasn't working. I walked over, bent down, looked for 2 seconds and said his wheel was on backwards. still can't figure out why the axle wouldn't go in with the wheel backwards. the bearings and stuff inside the wheel are the same diameter on both sides so it should have slid right in.

i think his calipers were still on and the pads/rotor distances were off enough.
