Fuel jug for street/track bikes?

    Fuel jug for street/track bikes?

Looking to purchase another fuel jug for the bikes. Not to carry on the bike, just a 5 gallon jug. Any suggestions or stick with the usual?

I have two currently: Risk Racing and whatever Cycle Gear sold 10+ years ago. Both function fine but I occasionally spill gas or have it splash up, especially when the jug is full. Maybe I just need to use a funnel or lift more weights?

Will be used for every genre of bike: cruiser, ADV, sportbike, etc.

I bought one of these for trackday duty and it's quite nice. Buy once, cry once.

I hate my VP jug, cap just does not want to seal.

I've got a couple of the thumb trigger 'ez pour' 2.5gal jugs that work awesome though. Sucks filling two containers to get 5 gals of capacity, but much easier to deal with and no spills. For topping off the snowblower/etc, things are never going to eat 2.5 gals in one shot I prefer these. If I'm regularly pouring more in one shot, I dunno if I'd try the 5 gal ver of these, or something else, but it wouldn't be another VP jug.

These fit on the 5-gallon jugs sold at the hardware store.

It's gotten new o-rings, jug sealing surface re-ground to be actually flat, verified the o-ring is seating on both surfaces fully, just can't get the damn thing to seal when pouring.

I reached the point at which I got pissed off enough at the stupid plastic gas cans and bought one of those this year. Wish I had done it 10 years ago.

I should probably get these 2.5 jugs for the generator, although I'm planning to try the cheapo electric transfer pump I got from HF when I'm at the track this weekend.

I use vp with no issue. If your spilling try using the air vent to slow things down.
The ones from cycle gear look pretty good too.

You can buy an inline shutoff valve for both as well.

Maybe get a couple Rota packs?

We have those at work and IMO, they suck. They are heavy and slow pouring.

I actually like the Harbor Freight plastic 5 gallon with the safety foreskin nozzle. I'll probably add a vent to mine. Flip it over, hook the foreskin on the rim of the tank, press the safety if yours still has one, and let the weight of the whole jug sit on the nozzle. When the tank is full, lift it up to stop pouring.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

Dana used one of those when she was at the track, worked AWESOME. No lifting, no mess, pure lazy town win. I've been trying to find one with a real narrow snout that will fit down inside the tanks on my bikes so I can use them for quick drains too but so far no luck.

You can mask the problem slightly by choking off the air vent so it instead has to draw in through the cap, pushing the fuel back. But that only works with a decent pour speed, and you get your gas in spurts which often splashes back out of shallower tanks. Pour slower so you can see what's going on and keep the splash back from happening and the damn thing weeps. I should just buy a fuel pump wand.

Derailing my own thread here, but I fell into an internet wormhole and found out I can pair my generator with an outboard motor jug. Why didn't I think of this sooner??

I bought some of these this past spring for my old jugs, work well. I reused the old threaded caps, they seemed to fit better.

I like the "midwest" style gas jug, gut the spout out, and drill a hole for a valve stem

For long-term storage we use steel JustRite or Eagle safety cans.

    https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...-gas-can-5-gal

Plastic jugs we use No Spill, 1.25, 2.5 and 5 gal.

I still have my two "pre-ban" Chilton 5-gallon cans & still love 'em!

I also have two of their 2-1/2 gallon cans as well. Pre ban of course...

I can't believe people are asking $50+ for them...

Love my VP. Only thing I don't like about it is the plastic hose gets harrrrrd & stiffffffffff

At some point I'd like to pick up a 1.25 or 2.5 gal Tractor Supply NO-SPILL for quicker & easier filling of dirt bikes & whatever. Those look like a pretty good design with great reviews.

Yeah, I thought about getting one of those but I like the auto stop feature of the No Spill. Don't gotta worry about overflowing.
